FOOD SERVICES DIRECTOR
ALBEMARLE – CHARLOTTESVILLE REGIONAL JAIL

The Food Services Director is responsible for the Food Service Department to ensure proper preparation and service of
meals to the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail and the Blue Ridge Detention Center. This individual performs related
administrative, supervisory and technical work for the daily operations of the Food Service Department.
Plans, coordinates and supervise the daily operations to ensure proper preparation and service of meals;
Requisition foods, supplies and equipment as needed;
Inspects the cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen and equipment, directs corrective action as necessary;
Verifies deliveries, inventories, and stocks food supplies. Maintains sanitary standards; conducts monthly
inventories;
Reviews the work of subordinates for compliance and accuracy, makes recommendations for improvement;
Prepares and administers the department budget; monitors expenditures;
Creates schedule for Food Service Supervisors to maintain adequate work force for the department;
Reviews and approves all menus; plans special diets; ensure menus and recipes are in compliance with established
guidelines;
Enforces Employee and Inmate rules as pertains to the kitchen and facility;
Attends training, meetings and workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills;
Plans and provides catering for special events and meetings and requested.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a Serve-Safe Certification, Certified Food Protection Professional, may be required to
possess other certification(s) as deemed necessary. Completion of a high school diploma or GED. Requires over five years
of experience in supervising, cooking and planning meals in large quantities is desired.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND WORK REQUIREMENTS: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively
communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as
normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Significant standing, walking,
moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling and the ability to lift 50
lbs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ability to
possess a health certificate for food preparation issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia; ability to operate a County car or
van. The Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail application must be completed for this position.
HIRING SALARY RANAGE: $46,014-$71,322 /annually, depending on experience and qualifications
