The Facility Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is the acute care nursing leader under the direction of the facility administrator and Regional Chief Nurse Executive/VP of Clinical Services and as such is responsible for monitoring the standard for nursing practice and patient care. The Facility CNO is responsible for the full scope of nursing services within the organization, leadership in planning, directing, coordinating, providing and improving patient care services consistent with hospital policies, objectives and standards for quality nursing care, and oversight of for achieving financial and strategic objectives established by the BSHSI, Regional Market, and Facility level Boards and senior executive leaders.
This individual reports to the Regional Chief Nurse Executive/VP of Clinical Services and the facility administrator. In the absence of the Chief Nurse Executive, the Facility CNO represents the Chief Nurse Executive and may assume responsibility for the scope of the Chief Nurse Executive’s responsibilities for nursing services within the designated facility.
Responsibilities include:
- 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional nursing care and the allocation of resources for the assigned areas of responsibility and overall nursing care delivery.
- Achievement of clinical outcomes, productivity/outcomes measure, and adherence to nursing practice standards.
- Cultivating and perpetuating a culture that embraces and exemplifies nursing professional practice and leadership excellence.
- Ensuring a person-centric approach to care delivery
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5 years leadership and management experience in nursing and hospital operations. Most recent 3 of the last 5 years of leadership must have been in a direct leadership role in a hospital setting or direct patient care environment.
- Minimum nursing education requirement is a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s in nursing or equivalent healthcare administration/leadership program required.
- Current State of Virginia registered nursing license without restrictions
- National professional certification preferred
- Expert interpersonal and written and oral communication skills.
