American Petroleum Institute (API) is seeking a Vice President, Downstream Policy.
JOB PURPOSE
Provide leadership to API, the Downsteam Committee and other primary policy committees on issues related to fuels, refining, marketing and downstream safety, security and technology with the objective of supporting and advancing regulatory and legislative public policy to the benefit of API and its members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the senior staff member for API and the Downstream Committee, to include working with member companies on industry priorities, development of programs and implementation of program activities to achieve association goals.
- Interface with other API groups and departments to ensure programs and budgets meet group priorities and objectives; monitor and measure effectiveness of program implementation and budget expenditures.
- Serve as the Downstream representative with API senior management to achieve effective maximum coordination and integration with other API programs.
- Responsible for achieving effective, efficient allocation of resources to internal teams working Downstream issues.
- Provide staff leadership to the Downstream group and participate as a member of API’s leadership team.
- Serve as an industry spokesperson on group issues and represent API before Congress, Executive Agencies, and in public forums.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY AND KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Provide staff leadership to the Downstream group. Interface with other groups and departments, including API’s standards and certication functions, to ensure programs and budgets meet group priorities and objectives.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of industry, trade association or related experience with knowledge of environmental and/or energy-related regulatory/legislative issues as well as public issue advocacy strategies.
- Have experience in public speaking and in communicating with the media.
- Requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and an ability to function effectively in a team environment.
- Requires proven ability to organize around and lead execution of priorities and objectives.
- Requires demonstrated client/association member focus and ability to work with senior company officials, internal issue teams and external industry organizations and coalitions.
- Previous experience effectively managing people, programs and budgets required.
- Demonstrated abilities in interpreting and analyzing federal regulation and legislation and developing broad issues management strategies.
- Possess high level of personal integrity and other essential leadership characteristics.
