This position serves as the Budget Manager of the Budget Division. This position works within general policies and procedures and exercises considerable independent judgment in assisting with developing and implementing new approaches to division responsibilities. The primary functions of this position are to direct all department budget development processes, including overseeing the Budget Management Section of the division and all financial reporting, ensuring financial coordination and integration of all information technology (IT) projects for the department.

The Interdepartmental Grant (IDG) for IT is a substantial and critical piece of the department’s budget, due to the volume and breadth of the department’s IT systems. This position requires continuous communication with the IT staff related to IT projects, as they have a significant impact on the budget, within both the IDG and the department’s program areas. The IDG makes up a large portion of the department’s overall budget.

This position liaises with the State Budget Office, House and Senate Fiscal Agencies, and the Michigan Legislature on department issues.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major.


Experience

Note: Experience is considered professional if the job requires a bachelor’s degree.

Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.

Alternate Education and Experience

Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
