Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Regional Athletic Director will provide guidance and direction to those schools within his/her assigned high school sports network to ensure compliance with district and budget policies.

The Regional Athletic Director will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
  • Prepare budget for assigned network of schools, indicating funding per team related to coach’s salaries, officiating cost and other staff, if needed.

  • Provide ongoing communication and monitoring to schools, coaches, and officials throughout the sports seasons to ensure participation data is entered.
  • Work with school athletic director and coaches to determine scheduling of games, including allocating times for scheduling of fields and postseason play.
  • Support schools on eligibility determination, processing of coaches, study hall setup, monitoring and following the student impact registration procedures.
  • Represent CPS at coaches meetings, orientations, and playoff proceedings, as well as monitor individual school practices to inform coaches of all pertinent information.
  • Coordinate with the school athletic directors that all coaches comply with the background check policy.
  • Create spreadsheets and reports to address incidents or school concerns.
  • Work closely with the Title IX Sports Compliance Coordinator to address compliance issues.
  • Prepare security request forms for “high alert” contests for the CPS Security Sports Manager.
  • Supervise activities within Chicago Public School stadiums.
  • Monitor schools to ensure the appropriate spirit of interscholastic sports is being practiced.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with other Regional Athletic Directors to provide support to schools.


Type of Education Required
:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Physical Education or a related field required.


Type of Experience and Number of Years
:
  • Five or more years of experience in interscholastic sports or a related field required. Three or more years of supervisory/management experience required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
:
  • Proven experience with interscholastic sports, and well versed in multiple sports programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and work effectively with people of multiple personalities and from diverse backgrounds and to cultivate an atmosphere of responsiveness, respect, and teamwork.
  • Proven experience leading major initiatives from inception to completion.
  • Ability to apply flexibility, ingenuity and courage to address the needs of the students involved in interscholastic sports programs throughout the varied communities of Chicago.
  • Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively lead teams.
  • Experience with and an ability to utilize various software programs for project and program efficiency, including comprehensive knowledge of various school information systems.


Residency Requirement:
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
