In this role as a Software Development Manager, you will lead the National Development team in creating new and exciting solutions to strengthen our efficiency. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator who appreciates the responsibility of managing technical people, resolving resource conflicts, and maintains a strategic vision of the path forward. The teams responsibilities include the delivery of custom developed web and mobile applications, and department wide enterprise architecture and integration guidance. The internal team is supplemented by a select number of partner development organizations, so demonstrated ability of cross-organizational collaboration is a must. Additional experience with agile development, CI/CD tooling, SAP integration and resource planning would aid in the success of the candidate. The position comes with a compressive training program and on the job shadowing that will allow you to understand the day-to-day responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process – prioritizing the work that needs to be done against the capacity and capability of the team.
  • Manage available resources to successfully meet technical requirements for solution evaluation, estimation, and development.
  • Mentor and lead the team to help ensure the company is provided with useable, maintainable, scalable, and extendable solutions.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on architecture and development standards, and integration strategy for migrating applications to new data sources.
  • Lead the creation of department SDLC processes, utilizing an evolving toolset of collaboration and CI/CID software.
  • Coordinates organizational efforts towards software development process improvement and support the department in understanding the benefits.
  • Establish professional relationships and continuously monitors vendor performance.
  • Manages project issues and risks and reviews the associated impact to project scope, timelines, resources, and project objectives to ensure software is delivered in an agreed timeframe.
  • Defines the tasks necessary to meet objectives and deliverables set by leadership.
  • Evaluates and recommends the use of off-the-shelf or custom developed software.
  • Serves as a communication liaison between employees and upper management to assure understanding and achievement of company goals, objectives and opportunities for improvement.
  • Champions a positive demeanor, inspires and motivates at various levels of the organization.
  • Maintains a strategic vision for the future services delivered to best align with the company’s need.
  • Assures the training, development, and performance of their team’s staff to retain a motivated, professional workforce that achieves their career objectives.
  • Recruits and recommends qualified employees for their team’s staff positions.
  • Approves all time-off requests for direct reports.
  • Establishes and communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to their team to assure mutual understanding of desired results; resolves internal or external barriers that prohibit successful goal achievement.
  • Understands the overarching company strategy, as well as communicates and models the core values, of the organization to create a sense of teamwork and membership among employees.
  • Consults with leadership on the development of their team’s strategy.
  • Advises leadership to source external vendors for applicable services when appropriate.
  • Liaises with regions to ensure timely and efficient communication flow.
  • Consults with the business to effectively design and streamline applicable processes within the organization.
  • Keeps up-to-date on external best practices and relevant changes to their field/area; communicates updates to leadership.
  • Manages their team by driving projects and tasks to completion through effective prioritization, work planning, resource allocation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Identifies cost-saving opportunities and potential process improvements.
  • Serves as the primary link between their team’s staff and leadership to assure understanding of company goals, objectives, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years experience with delivering custom developed IT solutions.
  • Experience using a range of agile project management methods.
  • Excellent understanding of the balance of scope, timeline and cost.
  • Proven experience in handling escalations, resolving conflict, and navigating organizational process.
  • Success in working with a wide variety of stakeholders with conflicting needs and demands to execute on the Shared Services / Development strategy.
  • A combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
  • Or, relevant ALDI business experience with an exceptional level of demonstrated success.
  • Integration technology experience with SAP solutions is preferred.

  • Knowledge of business system environments and integration; ability to understand overall data flow from user specifications considering all input and output, hardware, software, and the operating environment.
  • Knowledge of computer software and hardware: .NET, SQL, JavaScript, CSS.
  • Ability to define specifications from user requirements.
  • Skill of preparing written materials such as documentation, presentations, proposals, correspondence and reports to meet purpose and audience (attention to detail).
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships and work cooperatively with internal customers, external vendors and suppliers.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a group of individuals to make the work of the group successful and effective.
Travel:

  • Limited travel necessary during training.
