Reporting to the Head of Casualty, the Head of Wholesale Primary Casualty is responsible for setting and implementing the strategic direction for the U.S. Primary Casualty Wholesale Division. He/she manages 15+ underwriters in branch offices across the country.
Responsibilities:
- With other underwriting management team members, establishes an environment that is adaptable and well positioned to respond to dynamic market conditions
- Provides collaborative management of the division with attention to members and growth in coverages, programs and services; serves as model for negotiation of key relationships and growth
- Assures development and implementation of policies, guides, and procedures
- Keeps informed of new developments in underwriting activities and competitive practices.
- Coordinates regional/field underwriting practices to ensure compliance with approved policies
- Responsible for supporting the development and training of an effective underwriting staff
- Responsible for maintenance of relationships with various industry, trade, and rating organizations
- Provides technical counsel and guidance to region or field underwriters, as appropriate
- Work collaboratively with the President, US Specialty Casualty to determine opportunities and resources required
- Promote a culture of underwriting expertise, inclusion and collaboration
- Identify, retain and develop talent at all levels within the organization
- Responsible for P/L management for the business unit
Qualifications

15+ years of E&S casualty experience required, with background and expertise in underwriting, sales and distribution

Deep primary casualty construction experience. Premises and products experience, a plus.

Strong industry reputation as both a technical and externally facing market leader

Sound financial acumen, understanding of P&L, knowledge and experience with setting and driving an operating plan; track record of setting goals and delivering results

Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to encourage new ways of looking at problems, processes and solutions, develop sound recommendations for capitalizing on opportunities and improving results, and generate new ideas for profitable growth

Leadership experience, strong mentoring and coaching discipline and prior experience building a profitable underwriting team

Superior communication skills, both oral and written; ability to deal confidently with all levels of the organization, including senior executives, underwriters and business partners

Team player with outstanding inter-personal, negotiation and organizational influencing skills; excellent relationship management skills and leadership behaviors
Travel:
The Head of Wholesale Primary Casualty can expect a 30% travel requirement.
