Global Medical Director

Pathfinder’s Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights technical team partners with program staff in over 15 countries to deliver expert support in SRHR, women’s empowerment, gender equity, and women-led climate resilience programming. Operating as a global team, currently covering three continents, they deliver technical thought leadership, global best practices and learning, program design and development, as well as technical assistance to country teams.
We seek a Global Medical Director who is passionate about expanding access to SRHR to women and girls globally. They must be committed to ensuring that every client that accesses information or a service through a Pathfinder-supported intervention receives the highest quality of care, and that all our programs are delivered with technical distinction and with the potential of scale and sustainability. The competitive candidate is a strategic leader and implementer with significant experience working in SRHR and a demonstrated track record in successfully leading a team and organization in clinical excellence.
Summary: Leads the Pathfinder clinical portfolio that spans over 15 countries, covering contraception, comprehensive abortion care, cervical cancer, maternal, newborn health and HIV/AIDs. Also responsible for leading the organization’s approach to clinical governance and quality assurance across the health systems in which Pathfinder operates. Sets the direction for the delivery of SRH and is accountable for development of strategy for high-quality client centered-care for women and girls in the future. This role also serves as a senior representative of Pathfinder externally.

Strategic Leadership: Lead the enhancement and embedding of Pathfinder’s global approach to clinical governance and accountability, including roll-out of a global quality approach, including standards, tools, guidance, process and global package of quality assurance. Monitor global trends and clinical advancements, and suggest areas where Pathfinder can embrace, embed and innovate new approaches for delivering client-centered care.

Strengthen Global SRHR: Work closely with Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning and colleagues in SRHR team to establish and roll-out a global learning model which will facilitate exchange of best practices across Pathfinder projects and country teams, as well as with the global SRHR community. Ensure that our programs and partners receive high-quality technical support that enables them to design excellent programs that deliver safe clinical outcomes in line with our standards for client-centered care.

Management: Build and manage the global clinical team, based in Africa and Asia and covering all core program areas: contraception, comprehensive abortion care, cervical cancer, maternal, newborn health and HIV/AID. Set a vision and mentor and motivate the team to deliver high quality guidance, support and thought leadership.

Thought Leadership: Be a thought-leader and represent Pathfinder externally including giving presentations; attending technical meetings and consultations; provide direction to Pathfinder’s presence and abstract submission to specific conferences. Support and develop the expertise and capacity of country program technical staff for global representation.

Collaboration: Work closely with departments and teams across Pathfinder, including Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning and Country Programs and Impact.
Minimally Required Job-Specific Competencies:
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Services: Deep knowledge sexual and reproductive health and rights, and the latest technological developments.

Minimally Required Organizational Competencies:

Required Education, Training and Experience:
- 15+ years’ experience leading or overseeing SRH program in developing countries
- MD, MN, NP, CNM or other relevant clinical degree
- Experience living/working in developing countries
- Experience leading a team to improve a global quality assurance system and institute best practices in SRH care delivery across the organization
- Significant experience designing and leading quality improvement strategies for client-centered care
- Significant experience working across complex projects
- Prefer experience meeting various donor deliverables and managing donor expectations
- Prefer fluency in French or Portuguese
- Experience providing support to MoH across the health system desirable
- Experience working in matrixed organizations desirable
- Experience in having regional or global technical publications desirable
