The University of North Carolina ? Chapel Hill is seeking an experienced General Orthopaedic Surgeon to lead a new rural orthopaedic program to deliver care to patient in rural communities. This is a unique opportunity to lead the future of healthcare delivery to rural communities. The successful candidate will: ? Provide general orthopaedic surgical care to hospitals in rural communities on a part-time basis. ? Develop a telemedicine network to provide a robust support system between rural hospitals and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. ? Liaise with the community physicians to develop strategies for the recruitment and retention of orthopaedics surgeons in rural communities. ? Develop and lead educational opportunities to expose musculoskeletal healthcare learners to rural communities and rural practices. ? Integrate prison medicine into a rural health network strategy, and provide part-time orthopaedic services to the prison system. ? Develop a robust support network for affiliated orthopedists practicing in rural communities to improve the quality of care offered across the UNC network. ? Liaise with faculty at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill to integrate rural health into the educational and research missions. ? In partnership with UNC orthopaedic trauma surgeons, develop best practices for rural hospital emergency departments for orthopaedic coverage. ? Develop strategies to integrate population health research to advance the practice and care of people?s in underserved communities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Board certified or board eligible. The successful candidate will have: ? Knowledge and experience of the challenges facing rural hospitals and a passion to develop local community practices. ? General orthopaedic surgical skills (board-certification in sports or trauma preferred, but not required). ? Strong networking, communication and interpersonal skills. ? Knowledge and experience in using telemedicine in orthopaedics. ? Demonstrated experience in building successful clinical programs. ? Interest in population health research and education. This position will come with an academic title commensurate with experience. Extensive travel is required for this position, but the candidate has no living location restriction (Triangle region recommended, because of its central location in the state and proximity to the University of North Carolina ? Chapel Hill). There are no call requirements.MD required. Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. Preferred: Fellowship Training in Sport or Trauma.
