KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to)

  • Act as one of the company’s internal legal counsel advising on various global legal affairs of the company, including but not limited to contract negotiation, HR matters, litigation, and other matters arising from time-to-time.
  • Day-to-day responsibilities will include contract negotiations and support of the company’s Canadian and U.S. customs brokerage lines of business, freight and transportation services, client issue resolution, professional service provider engagement agreements, and working collaboratively with all parts of the business.
  • Provide strategic and tactical legal advice to lines of business and functional area teams on all legal matters and issues.
  • Provide advice on regulatory compliance and public law principles including governance and transparency.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Exceptional negotiation and legal drafting skills coupled with strong practical problem-solving skills and strong business acumen.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • J.D. or LL.B. from an accredited U.S. Law School
  • Current member in good standing with the candidate’s state bar association.

EXPERIENCE

  • 6-10 years of combined top-tier law firm and in-house experience gained in a sizeable company; ideally having advised the General Counsel (or similarly situated individual), senior management, or a combination thereof.
  • Prior experience with customs brokerage, international trade, and enterprise risk management experience not required, but considered an asset.
