The IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations is a department of the Association which brings more than 710,000 graduates together to support one another and the University throughout their lives. The IUAA activates a powerful global network through live events, webinars, chartered alumni communities, scholarship programs, and seriously fun traditions. The association connects alumni, students, and friends through communications, activities, programs, and services. Additionally, it develops and supports volunteer leadership, serves as a voice for alumni as the university evolves, and provides lifelong learning opportunities.

Job Summary
The Associate Director of Alumni Communities will be responsible for managing relationships with campus partners to guide and develop academic-based alumni communities to further the mission and goals of IU, IUPUI, and IUAA. These communities are the primary points of contact for alumni with the university and as such the staff member must ensure a well-balanced portfolio of program options are being offered and staged for and through these communities. These program options should reflect the IUAA Strategic Plan, the Chartered Alumni Communities Program, and institutional priorities.
This position will work with the IUPUI Managing Director of Alumni Relations on designing and implementing an overall management strategy for Indianapolis-based academic communities. The management strategy will include consulting and training campus partners in best practices in alumni volunteer recruitment and management that meet both alumni needs and IU/IUPUI and IUAA objectives, as defined by university, campus, and alumni group goals and work plans. This includes the implementation of the Chartered Alumni Communities Program.
This role will include serving as the subject matter expert and implementing a management strategy for their assigned portfolio in consultation with senior staff and university partners. They will serve as an advisor to new and existing volunteer leadership and campus partners, play a key role in establishing priorities, developing and coordinating meetings with key internal partners to deliver high level and strategic alumni engagement opportunities, identify and train alumni volunteer leaders, and monitor and approve budget expenditures.
Promote Indiana University Alumni Association memberships, programs, services and benefits to IUPUI alumni.
This position may also serve on various advisory boards, professional forums or institutional communities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional level experience developing, implementing, and coordinating programs and events, cultivation of volunteers, and budget administration.
Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment and contribute to, or lead strategic planning and development. Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and planning skills including demonstrated diplomacy, discretion and presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a customer service orientation and ability to interact and communicate with a wide variety of individuals. Strong organizational and multitasking skills including ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while consistently meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic, high-stress, fast paced environment with multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of the role of an Alumni Association and University Advancement.
Working Conditions / Demands
This position will require moderate travel, including nights, evenings, and weekends as needed.
