Nexstar Broadcasting Inc., America’s largest local broadcasting company, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Vice President/General Manager to lead WDCW (CW) in Washington DC, the 6th largest DMA in the country, with over 2.4 million television households.
Washington DC is a market unlike any other, home to the nation’s capital, historic monuments, memorials, museums, concerts, family-friendly festivals and eclectic neighborhoods. The greater Washington area is home to 15 Fortune 500 companies – including but not limited to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Capital One, Northrop Grumman, Marriot International, Hilton Worldwide Holdings and Discovery. It is also the home of the newly crowned World Series Champions, Washington Nationals. In addition to baseball, the DC area hosts the NFL’s Washington Redskins, the NBA’s Washington Wizards, WNBA’s Washington Mystics, the NHL’s Washington Capitals, Major League Soccer’s DC United and collegiate sports at six local university and colleges.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly-engaged broadcasting executive with the vision to build something special, create exclusive local news and content while super-serving the local community across the Washington region. It is a chance to work alongside and lead an impressive group of professionals producing some of the very best local television in the U.S.
The successful candidate should have a track record of significant accomplishments while leading sales-driven organizations and growing revenue across multiple platforms throughout his or her career in the broadcast industry. This person will have demonstrated the ability to develop the skillsets of their department heads and promote teamwork within all areas of a television station operation.
In addition, the candidate should have a history of revenue development and community engagement successes, a keen focus on the bottom line, and a broad range of local programming experience. We are looking for a stakeholder—someone who understands the local television business, promotes good citizenship and seeks to make a positive, lasting impact in the community.
