Schmueser & Associates is seeking a Safety Director who will be responsible for ensuring overall working conditions comply with local, state, and federal safety and health regulations. This person will partner with Operations and Schmueser & Associates Leadership to influence and create a zero injuries safety culture.
Essential Functions:
- Drive and lead a zero injuries safety culture among Schmueser & Associates, clients, and subcontractors
- Direct project teams and project safety with site specific safety programs
- Review, monitor, and evaluate subcontractor activities to ensure a zero injuries safety culture
- Develop, implement, and lead company and project training and safety orientation
- Mentor, manage, and provide timely performance evaluations of project safety
- Effectively work and build relationships with groups or individuals of similar or diverse backgrounds at all levels of the organization
- Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure alignment of Safetyâs function to the business objectives and create organizational strategies to support safety programs and initiatives
- Promote safety awareness throughout the company, project sites, and offices through topics such as safety moments
- Empower company personnel to identify and correct safety concerns or issues
- Partners with Human Resources and the holding company shared services to interview, hire, manage, or terminate employees
- Monitor the companyâs progress toward safety goals and metrics
- Investigate safety issues, concerns, or accidents and develop a solution moving forward
- Prepare, track, and analyze reports to meet corporate and/or regulatory requirements for monitoring and improving safety metrics
- Participate and provide representation in local, external safety organizations as well as outreach within local construction industry forums
- Develop and manage the Safety Department’s budget

Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in EHS or a related field
- Prior experience as a Safety professional in the oil and gas, mining, or chemical industry
- 10+ years of experience as a Safety professional
- 3+ years of experience in a supervisory position
- MSHA Trainer Certification
Preferred Education and Experience:
- OSHA Trainer Certification
