The Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel is looking for a Recreation Manager (or what we call Director of Fun)!

Located in the heart of uptown Phoenix since 1929, this gorgeous 39-acre property has 738 rooms, over 200,000 square feet in banquet space, and 6 food and beverage outlets. These outlets include 3 restaurants, a bar, cafe, and in-room dining.

The Recreation Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and facilitating the recreational activities and programming for children and adults ensuring the highest quality of Waldorf standards are met for recreational activities, facility cleanliness, and administrative operations. This individual will oversee 15 team members.

The ideal candidate will be a high energy leader with the ability to drive the recreation department forward through team development, creativity, and the passion for providing exceptional service. What will I be doing?

The Recreation Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and facilitating the recreational activities and programming for children and adults ensuring the highest quality of Waldorf standards are met for recreational activities, facility cleanliness, and administrative operations. Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
  • Knowledge of food and beverage industry, current market trends and federal, state and local laws pertaining to the hospitality industry, i.e., OSHA, Arizona Liquor Commission, Department of Health and Sanitation regulations
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers and staff
  • Create, promote and supervise the children’s activities including swimming classes, games, sports activities, crafts, tennis court rentals, pickle ball, putt putt golf, tennis
  • Provide communication to the property all daily and season activities at the Resort
  • Ensure that guests are provided with information regarding recreational activities, equipment rentals, tennis court reservations, fitness classes, and all related activities
  • Monitor the POS procedures for the recreation department
  • Demonstrate a commitment to making a conscientious effort to eliminate or reduce the risk or injury to our guests and team members. Know the correct action to take in the event of an emergency, and demonstrate this knowledge by acting appropriately in the event of an emergency
  • Provide a detailed monthly recreation and activity schedule for the Resort.
  • Order supplies as needed for recreation and fitness department
  • Ensure that all recreation equipment is in safe working condition
  • Execute holiday events such as Easter, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving 5k, and December high leisure events: Tree Lighting, holiday themed activities
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all recreation activity areas
  • Monitor contract agreement with bike company to ensure that bikes are in proper working condition
  • Work with hike guide company to ensure communication, scheduling and billing is being handled
  • Create and maintain poolside activities
  • Work with history tour guides for groups
  • Maintains inventories of equipment, amenities, chemicals and other supplies to insure the items are in stock and reorders in timely manner
  • Coaches, counsels and disciplines staff, when appropriate, to insure standards are met and assigns staff to additional training when needed
  • Consults with Property Operations regarding rehabing or general maintenance of public areas
  • Performs line employees job functions as needed under high volume and emergency situations
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Spa & Recreation, such as implementing procedures and operating plans
