Cato Research is a full-service contract research and development organization with international resources dedicated to helping pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies efficiently and expeditiously navigate the regulatory approval process in order to bring new drugs, biologics, and medical devices to the people who need them. Cato is a non-laboratory environment.

We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager Trainee position in our Durham, NC location. This position is responsible for managing the development and implementation of project management processes for Cato Research (CATO) services involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on project initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure. The Project Manager Trainee creates and executes project management plans, manages project scope, plans and directs schedules, monitors project budget/spending, oversees project resources and deliverables, identifies risks and develops risk mitigation strategies, communicates with project stakeholders. Principal duties and responsibilities include ensuring and coordinating progress of multiple projects according to CATO procedures as well as client specifications and contractual timelines. Assists in the development and use of project management tools, templates, and procedures.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of direct project management experience, preferable in drug, biologic, or device development industry.

Education: Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent.

Skills: Ability to maintain effectiveness in a changing environment. General knowledge of scientific and regulatory aspects of a project and ICH guidelines. Understanding of the resource requirements, hours, and deliverables associated with drug, biologic, or medical device development to effectively manage cost, time, scope, and quality control. Knowledge of and insight into general business principles and practices as well as current business priorities and requirements. Excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Ability to foster learning, advancement and development of others. Dependability and ability to take action to meet immediate challenges, think proactively, and meet future opportunities and challenges. Ability to negotiate, persuade, or influence others to accept a point of view, adopt a specific agenda, or to take a course of action. Willingness to assist and provide service to others internally and externally. Effective planning and organization skills. General computer skills and knowledge of project management software and processes.

Autonomy: Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance requirements. Frequently interacts with project teams, drug sponsors, and functional peer groups at various management levels. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain coordination of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning projects, schedules, etc. Normally receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
