Career Qualifications
- Masterâs degree with graduate specialty training in public transportation, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible work experience in transportation in public school systems, the military, or mass transportation.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop goals, objectives, policies, and practices for Transportation Services.
- Evaluate zone and vehicle directors through the continuous improvement process to ensure the Districtâs strategic and department goals are accomplished.
- Develop and maintain procedures and processes related to compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies relative to transportation and vehicle safety.
- Ensure Transportation Services meets all requirements of the daily operations, vehicle maintenance, and extracurricular activities/programs in support of School Board goals.
- Regularly evaluate program effectiveness utilizing stakeholder feedback to improve service delivery.
- Monitor departmental budgets and ensure alignment with the Districtâs strategic plan.
- Respond to discipline problems and coordinate with appropriate personnel in the resolution of discipline and school bus-related problems.
- Ensure school bus routes are organized in the most efficient manner commensurate with good management techniques and state guidelines.
- Monitor and implement legislative actions/changes as appropriate.
- Direct the Transportation Services zones and programs, set operating direction for directors, and evaluate their performance.
- Innovatively lead and develop goals and evaluation criteria for vehicle maintenance and transportation programs.
- Direct the preparation of the departmental budget.
- Ensure vehicle and related facility maintenance management programs meet all requirements of the daily operations and extracurricular activities/programs.
- Ensure an appropriate long-range plan exists for transportation routes/facilities and coordinate the activities with appropriate personnel.
- Serve as the contact for Florida Department of Education for all transportation matters.
- Provide leadership, assistance, and support for transportation route functions.
- Attend appropriate District committees and professional and community functions in support of District goals.
- Support and facilitate positive relationships between the District and its bargaining units.
- Generate creative solutions to District challenges.
- Prepare recommendations for School Board meeting agendas and attend School Board meetings as needed.
