Summary

As a strategic partner the Director position provides technical safety and health support to the construction field divisions and subcontractors. This positon directs Environmental, Health, Safety & Security efforts for Stewart & Tate and all of its affiliated companies which include Stewart and Tate, Inc., Stewart & Tate Construction, Lewis Contractors, and Riley Welding & Fabricating.

Essential Functions

  • Provides technical safety and health support and information to field operations and subcontractors.
  • Prepares written safety and health programs and policies.
  • Studies audit reports for non-compliance and leading indicators to develop preventative measures and focused safety audits conducive to proactive safety strategies
  • Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
  • Develops company safety and health goals.
  • Manage workers compensation, general labiality, and auto claims. Interfaces with and maintains insurance industry relationships.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with clients.
  • Manage online safety databases to ensure compliance.
  • Conducts risk assessments and trains others in conducting risk assessments.
  • Investigates all accidents and ensures corrective actions are implemented across the site.
  • Maintain DOT compliance files
  • Understands Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations and monitor regulatory changes as they occur.
  • Serves as a mentor for Safety Specialists to drive development and growth of the EHS team.
  • Experience in a leadership role and comfortable leading.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Competencies

  • Bachelors or advanced degree, preferably in Occupational Safety or related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of Safety experience in construction environments
  • Displays strong problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, MSHA, ANSI, etc. policies and regulations
  • Previous experience with risk management and interfacing directly with insurance companies preferred
  • Lead, supervise, manage, and develop individuals
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to create a results driven, team oriented environment
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Make independent decisions
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills
  • Use PC and related software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Handle multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines
  • Deliver executive presentations to site leadership teams

Supervisory Responsibility

This person would manage the Health and Safety of 300+ employees and have 2 direct EHS reports.
