Responsibilities

The Director of Bar Success works with the Assistant Dean for Academic Programs, as well as faculty and staff, to direct programming for students and graduates as they prepare for the bar exam. Develops and implements College-wide initiatives to improve bar passage. Oversees required data collection and reporting related to bar passage and bar exam performance, and evaluates data to improve programming. Assists with student coaching, student advising, and resource identification and development.

Evaluates and enhances existing bar preparation services at the College of Law. Develops and implements bar exam preparation programming for students, with particular emphasis on at-risk students, graduates experiencing difficulty with bar exam study, and bar exam re-takers.

Develops additional programming to include collaborating with faculty to assist students with bar preparation efforts, coordinating a mentor program to provide individual mentors to graduates preparing for the bar, tracking at-risk students’ preparation for the bar exam and performance on the exam, and providing a clearinghouse of bar preparation resources, including resources for repeat bar exam takers.

Oversees collection and organization of data related to bar passage, student participation in bar success programming and course offerings, and individual student academic and bar exam performance. Tracks ultimate bar passage and first-time test taker data as required by the American Bar Association and the Florida Board of Governors.

Analyzes data and provides regular reports and recommendations to the Dean and Academic Programs Dean. Stays abreast of bar exam developments in Florida and nationally, and of developments and/or trends in the delivery of bar support services by law schools.

Implements individualized study plans for students. Helps individual students and graduates execute customized strategies for improving performance on the bar exam. Meets regularly with students and graduates who are preparing for the bar exam and reviews their written work product and/or performance in simulated exams, providing analysis and feedback to help students improve their writing and test-taking skills.

Conducts supplemental bar preparation programming, to include practice exam sessions, study skills workshops, and feedback sessions on essays and practice exams.

Provides bar-related information to faculty members regarding topics tested and recent bar exam questions in the faculty member’s area of teaching. Assists and supports faculty with the development of academic enrichment initiatives related to the bar exam. Coordinates with the Research Center to ensure access to and awareness of bar study resources.

Develops and implements web site content and other communications describing the law school’s bar support program and services. Ensures bar success program information is maintained and updated on law school social media platforms.

Performs other duties in support of the Bar Success Program and Academic Programs Office as needed.

Qualifications

A J.D. degree is required for this position. A minimum one year of experience in a legal, career services, academic advising and/or data management field is also required.

Applicants must have strong technical skills, to include Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar software, Adobe Acrobat or similar software, and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Must be able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, prioritizing work to meet deadlines. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, is essential. Must also have strong interpersonal skills and be able to interact successfully with students, alumni, faculty, administrators and external constituents.

A demonstrated ability to analyze data and prepare reports, effectively manage projects, and develop policies and programming, are critical to the success of this position.

Preferred

Previous experience managing a bar exam support program, either in a law school or for a commercial provider, is preferred, as well as teaching experience acquired in an academic support program at an ABA-accredited law school.

3-5 years or more of experience related to the position responsibilities is strongly preferred. Prior experience in educational analytics, or an advanced degree in education or a related field, is also preferred.

Anticipated Salary Range

Anticipated salary range of $60,000 – $75,000, depending upon experience/education.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
