Position overview
Skanska USA Commercial Development (CDUS) is seeking a seasoned communications professional to execute external and internal communications for all of its U.S. based markets: Boston, MA; Washington, D.C.; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA and Seattle, WA.
The Director, Communications will develop proactive strategic communications plans and tactics to support corporate and project objectives. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to strategically position the business unit to key stakeholders, including the media, community, government partners and customers. They will be responsible for organizational messaging, media relations, content creation and storytelling to support earned and owned/social media, executive visibility and internal employee communications.

The position reports to the Vice President, Head of Marketing and is a member of the Strategic Services Team for commercial development.
What you’ll do

The Director, Communications is be responsible for co-planning and executing the overall communications strategy and activities to support the firm’s commercial development projects, as well as its corporate initiatives.

The director of communications will:
  • Coordinate with internal project stakeholders, including senior leadership, to develop and execute strategic communications plans. Activities include communications plans for development projects, corporate milestones and financial transactions.
  • Develop relationships with key media and manage multiple public relations agencies.
  • Take a proactive role in driving story ideas and creating informative, persuasive and concise multi-channel communication strategies.
  • Draft and edit press materials, executive communications and content for owned channels.
  • Plan and execute corporate and property-specific events and corporate initiatives.
  • Liaise with communications representatives from outside partners such as tenants, architects and designers, and joint venture partners, as well as planning organizations, government partners and other stakeholders.
  • Perform all responsibilities with consideration of time sensitivity and confidentiality, using extreme discretion

What we’re looking for

  • A minimum of 10years of relevant experience in communications, public relations and/or public affairs, preferably in the commercial real estate development industry
  • A highly entrepreneurial, self-motivated and collaborative person who thrives in a dynamic and passionate work environment; demonstrates a flexible and adaptable work style; and responds quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines
  • Exceptional written, verbal and organizational skills required.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities.

  • Experience with multi-channel social media content strategies.
  • Established media contacts and relationships.
  • Experience and track record in shaping proactive reputation management programs and managing media relations programs.
  • Excellent leadership capabilities and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a highly collaborative team
  • Clear communicator with ability to interact with senior executives and manage relationships with key stakeholders.
  • The executive presence to work with senior leaders and senior external business partners.
  • Ability to juggle multiple activities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong professional interpersonal skills. A team player.
  • High level of energy and initiative.
  • Ability to maintain discretion/confidentiality. Unquestioned integrity.
  • Experience in the commercial real estate industry preferred
  • Financial, transactional and corporate communication experience highly desired.
Additional:
Position requires 30% travel to offices and project sites. Some last minute travel required to address crisis issues.
