Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative has a vision that ‘all people have a home’. We are a collaborative of congregations who together build affordable and supportive housing, shelter families, and organize to impact housing policy. Beacon is a unique organization – an experienced nonprofit housing developer leveraging the power of congregations to create the public will needed to build and sustain affordable housing. Our focus is on households who make less than $25,000 a year, and those who are experiencing homelessness.

The Position

The Vice President of Finance & Administration is a key leader in guiding the strategic growth of the organization; business modeling and forecasting for financial resources, developing our human resources strategies and policies and developing the administrative processes to meet our ambitious goals. This position is responsible for the development of the financial management strategy for Beacon, a complex, mission-driven organization with supportive housing developments that take several years to develop and a diverse funding stream for on-going operations. The position provides financial information, multi-year projections and analysis to help staff and board members assess risk and make strategic decisions.

While the emphasis of this role is finance, it also includes responsibility for managing a breadth of functions such as accounting, human resources, and information technology and requires an individual who is both strategic and tactical. This position serves as a member of Beacon’s Senior Leadership Team along with the CEO/President, the Vice President of Housing & Shelter Operations, and the Vice-President of Advancement & Congregational Engagement.

This position, located at our University Avenue office, reports to the CEO/President. This is a full-time position, and is eligible for health benefits, our retirement plan, and paid-time off. The annual salary range for this position is $110,000 – $150,000, depending on qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related major. CPA or MBA a plus.
  • Substantial experience in an organizational leadership and senior financial management role, preferably with a non-profit organization.
  • Experience overseeing an organization’s human resources and/or informational technology functions a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key financial concepts required – experience with fund accounting, government grants and property development accounting would be valuable.
  • Successful track record in policy and procedure development and implementation.
  • Keen analytic, organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and dedication to organizational mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Management

  • Contribute to the strategic growth and decision-making of the organization through financial forecasting and risk assessment.
  • Ensure the overall quality of financial and administrative activities for the organization.
  • Contribute to strategies to increase diversity, inclusion and equity within the organization.
  • Lead presentation of financial information and decision-making with the Finance, Operations and Real Estate Committee of the Board and provide report to the Committee and Board of Directors and ensure members receive the necessary guidance and training to carry out their oversight responsibilities.

Financial Oversight

  • Lead the development of multi-year financial projections of strategic expense levels and revenue sources along with the annual budget.
  • Coordinate annual independent audit and ensure its completion on a timely basis. Ensure all other regulatory or other compliance filings are completed on a timely basis. Manage the annual audit of property financial statements.
  • Manage the organization’s financial assets and banking and borrowing relationships.
  • Establish and maintain systems and process that ensure the timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, appropriate internal controls and proper recording of government grants and restricted private donations.
  • Issue and analyze internal financial reports for Beacon including the review and consolidation of property financial statements produced by property management companies.
  • Provide for the financial forecasting of predevelopment and acquisition financing and evaluate risk to the overall organization.

Human Resources

  • Lead the development and implementation of our human resources strategies, programs and policies to support a high–performing staff
  • Facilitate human resources’ policies, procedures and practices for staff and supervisors that promote an engaged staff, legal and regulatory compliance and equitable treatment of all staff members.
  • Design and maintain the organization’s compensation structure and benefit programs.

Information Technology

  • Carry out long-term planning of information technology to support the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Maintain a productive technology environment for staff members.
  • Ensure the security of organization data and systems.

Administration

  • Manage office space, equipment and services to provide productive work environment for staff.
  • Negotiate leases and contracts for office space, equipment and services.
  • Manage risk and insurance program.

Staff Supervision

  • Build and maintain a stable high performing staff team.
  • Define clear staff roles and responsibilities and prioritize work assignments to assure departmental goals are met.
  • Develop staff with training, direction and professional development.
  • Hire, evaluate and terminate staff according to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Promote a positive working environment through team building and employee appreciation.
