The Vice President of Assets will report directly to the SVP of Fleet Services and be the authority on life cycle optimization, capital expenditure/cash flow, management through life and sale/repurposing determinations on all tractors, trailers and MHE equipment. The role also encompasses responsibilities for the NFI Trailer Leasing business unit. You will take the organization’s strategies and translate them in a manner that enables teams to understand, buy in, and be motivated by our direction along with working cross functionally with Human Resources to recruit, onboard and develop our future workforce and leadership pipeline.

Job Summary

The VP of Assets works with the SVP of Fleet Services and leadership team to define NFI’s Asset Management strategy consisting of tractors, trailers, MHE, refrigerated units and other related equipment. The position is a healthy mix of strategy and operations, leaning more towards strategy activities and leadership/development of the team. The VP has the responsibility for setting the direction and achieving key metrics within the business area. This position requires superior business acumen, negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to implement new solutions and lean/continuous improvement programs. A key focus of this role will be to direct and coach department leaders to accomplish the goals of NFI along with ensuring embodiment of NFI’s Purpose, Vision, and Values in their day-to-day activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Builds customer relationships at the executive, regional and local levels to support retention of existing business and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Oversees the vehicle life cycle process, which includes on-boarding new assets, optimizing assets during our use (miles, hours, etc.) and asset disposition.

Exhibits commitment to the development of NFI employees, including active ownership of self-development. Empowers and challenges team members to reach their full potential. Recruits, develops, and retains a high performing team.

Manage P&L and metrics for department to measure operational performance aligned with overall NFI objectives.

Provide accountability for monthly results vs. budget and KPI’s

Compiles and prepares monthly financial and operational analysis.

Partners with finance to create capital expenditure budgets, forecasting tools and other financial reports as it relates to our assets.

Strategically adjusts activities, policies and practices to meet or exceed key performance metrics.

Be the ‘expert’ and educate organization on industry trends and best practices, technology solutions and customer requirements, proactively managing risks and opportunities in each

Manage multiple cost savings and optimization projects – scope definition, planning, documentation/vetting, timeline execution, and the leadership of cross-functional teams.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or a closely related field required or equivalent combination of education and related experience. MBA desirable.

10+ years-experience in the transportation/transportation logistics/asset management (tractor, trailer, MHE) field in progressive leadership positions including oversight and management of a P&L

Comprehensive understanding of fleet total cost of ownership and lifecycle management.

Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to vehicles, transportation and asset management.

Strong knowledge and experience with fleet support functions including operation, maintenance and support services.

Previous dedicated and/or private fleet background preferred

Strong analytical skills and mathematical competency

Strong financial conceptual skills

Excellent computer applications background including MS Office applications, reporting, analysis and presentations software

Other:
Must be willing to travel, often without ample notice, perhaps up to 20% of the time
