Overview
The Vice President-Assessments supervises Directors, Senior Associates, Associates and Project Analyst who are performing condition assessments (including environmental site assessments and other limited system assessments), for institutional and real estate clients, including the High Performance Campus program. The VP is ultimately responsible for effective and timely delivery of services, achieving client satisfaction, and for meeting goals of departmental profitability set out by the Company.
The Vice President may also directly manage certain assessment projects and in that capacity, has the same accountabilities as Directors and Senior Associates with comparable assignments. On some assessment projects, the VP may serve as the Project Executive, in lieu of the Senior Vice President or President.
General Authority
The Vice President reports to the Sr. VP-Chief Operating Officer of the Company. This position manages Directors, Senior Associates, Associates and Project Analysts in the Assessment department.
Key Accountabilities
- Supervises teams of employees and specialty consultants in performing property condition assessments
- Assigns department resources to projects, creates and manages schedules for delivery
- Monitors productivity of department personnel and reports results to corporate Principals; collaborates with Sr. VP to develop process improvements that will improve productivity
- Supports Marketing in fee calculations for proposed assessment projects
- Interfaces with subconsultants, communicates with them on corporate-level matters, identifies needs for additional subconsultants and orients them as needed
- Identifies training needs for each person in the department and creates training programs for individuals or groups of employees
- With support of marketing and company leadership, may be the sales lead in procuring new assessment projects for the Company
- Ascertains value addition associated with Companyâs services on each assessment project, and teaches project leaders to identify, measure, and track such value-adds
- Identifies needs for tools, such as software or equipment, that will enhance service delivery, efficiency, customer satisfaction, or communication
- Support HR in identifying candidates, qualifying, and selecting them, onboarding and achieving optimum productivity as quickly as possible
- Prepares budgets and forecasts for the assessment line of business
Skill Requirements
- Working knowledge of all types of commercial building systems
- Management and coaching of project teams preparing property condition assessments
- Technical writing proficiency, ability to coach and teach others (writing)
- Proficient in using MS 365 suite, with an emphasis on Word and Excel
- Knowledge of facility/property management practices, real estate investing basics
- Communications about technical matters to non-technicians
- Knowledge of CMMS and other industry related systems
Experience and Qualifications
- PCA consulting on complex assets, reporting to equity
- Four-year professional degree in architecture, engineering, construction
- Prefer Registered Architect or Professional Engineer
- 20 years of experience to include structural and architectural systems analysis, design, property condition assessment or related forensic reviews, or construction administration.
- Manager of business unit with accountability for profit, unit productivity
- Work in Dallas office, travel extra-regionally (approximately 50-50)
- Physically able to climb, lift, carry, walk substantial distances, work in all weather conditions
