The Senior Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing and evaluating a wide range of complex projects at OMSI, from strategic planning priorities and exhibit development to capital projects. The position is responsible for building and managing project teams, reporting to Project Sponsors and ensuring quality throughout the life of the project. In addition, the Senior Project Manager will lead establishing norms of project management as well as provide leadership for enterprise tools selection and implementation. The position reports to the Vice President of Technology and Business Transformation.

Participate in programs/initiatives to enhance corporate culture, such as:

  • Working effectively with and supporting volunteers throughout the organization
  • Supporting OMSI’s Total Guest Experience TGE/Customer Service mission & objectives in daily job performance, including diversity initiatives

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Project Management

  • Work as a senior resource to provide direction for others on the project, facilitate meetings, ensure milestones are aligned to project objectives, track project timelines, productivity, and resource allocation.
  • Work with project sponsors and stakeholders to complete project charter outlining scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, budget, timing, team and responsibilities.
  • Effectively manage project scope, timeline and budget and ensure any changes are documented and approved by the Project Sponsor.
  • Be accountable for project results along with Project Sponsor.
  • Clearly communicate expectations to team members and stakeholders across the organization.


Vendor Relationship and External Skills Management

  • Advise on specialized skill-sets needed for successful project completion through collaboration/partnership with team members.
  • Identify external consultants or contractors that will be required to complete project plans.
  • Recruit, contract and manage appropriate external resources and serve as a liaison to the project team.


Process Leadership and Enterprise Tool Development

  • Lead cross-functional development and implementation of best practices for project management organization-wide.
  • Implement and train on enterprise project management tools task management, resource scheduling and project accounting.
  • Be available as a mentor for other project managers and project leads.

  • This position is regular full-time, scheduled for 40 hours/week.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and customer service skills to work effectively with people of diverse talents and backgrounds.
  • Ability to track and manage risks, elevate and find mitigation strategies when needed.
  • Excellent project budgeting skills and experience using accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated abilities in strategic planning.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently facilitate meetings.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from senior management and gain sponsor and stakeholder alignment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills and ability to present numerical data effectively.

Preferences:

  • Experience with infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience leading projects with programmatic elements or interactive exhibits.
  • Experience managing and/or mentoring other project managers.
  • Experience selecting and implementing enterprise-level tools.


Education & Work Experience:

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of complex project management.
  • Minimum 2 years of building and managing multidisciplinary teams.

Preferences:

  • Bilingual – Spanish/English.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
