The Scrum Master provides effective collaboration, facilitation, leadership and coaching skills supporting the Agile development processes and delivery of software applications and IT functions for Canvas Credit Union. The Scrum Master will be responsible for applying the Agile practices as interpreted by the development and IT team, removing obstacles and promoting transparency. The Scrum Master will utilize applicable adaptations of Agile practices to deal with challenges.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Support business analysts/product owners and the development team by facilitating, guiding and coaching the teams on how to use and embrace Agile/Scrum practices and values.
- Encourage the adoption and implementation of process improvements guided by Agile principles.
- Organize and facilitate daily stand-up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meetings.
- Facilitate discussion, decision-making and conflict resolution.
- Coordinate resolution of impediments across organizational boundaries.
- Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency and radiating information.
- Determine and appropriately disseminate team performance information.
- Assess the Scrum maturity level of the team and organization and coach the team to higher levels of maturity at a pace that is sustainable and effective.
- Support business analysts/product owner, especially with respect to refining and managing the product backlog
- Manage dependencies between the development team, third parties and the Project Management Office.
- Exhibit support for the organization’s goals, values, initiatives and cost control.
- Comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
- Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
- Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications sufficient to be a resource for the development team.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job

Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
- Strong experience with Agile methodologies.
- CSM (Certified Scrum Master) certification strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of common Agile practices and service-oriented environments. and better development practices.
- Advanced skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment and increasing transparency.
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with other teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
- Solid conflict resolution and team formation skills.
- Ability to tailor Agile methodologies as appropriate to meet business and technology needs.
- Ability to establish immediate credibility with client, build consensus and achieve goals.
- Understanding of the basic fundamentals of software development processes and procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of Canvas or similar credit union financial products and services.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Ability to maintain confidences.
Education or Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent work experience. CSM (Certified Scrum Master) certification strongly preferred.
Experience: Minimum five years of experience in IT full development life cycle. Minimum 3 years of experience in the Scrum Master role for a software development team. Credit union or banking experience is a plus.
Working Environment/Physical Activities
High volume, faced-paced, dynamic office environment with some travel. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including rotating shifts, on-call, evenings and weekends. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines and filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, and standing as necessary.
