Job Description:

Research & Development Manager

The R&D Manager leads, plans, implements and maintains processes in our R&D department while overseeing the daily operations of application development in a small team environment. The R&D Manager provides technical oversight and manages a group of employees responsible for product planning, development and research analysis while designing and executing plans to create new product functionality.

The successful candidate will have e xperience with enterprise level software applications and be eager to protect the stability of our current customer base by ensuring low attrition rates and offering new features in our product that best support the criminal justice industry.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own the development capacity and ensure sprints with all assigned items and owner reviews are completed.
  • Suggest training/tools to enhance employee performance and skill development.
  • Manages the development team capacity and works with product to finalize each major software release on time and on budget.
  • Leads a local and remote set of team leaders to create high quality, robust software
  • Collaborates with other teams in the organization (local and remote) to align on implementations and product needs.
  • Coordinates development of research and software project plans and schedules
  • Monitors project schedules and maintain awareness of activities that may adversely impact the software schedule
  • Finalizes decisions on scope, duration of tasks, and determination of design requirements
  • Selects appropriate technology and development partners to ensure success of the platform
  • Integrates R&D activities with other business functions (Sales & Marketing, Support)
  • Participates in critical design and technology reviews
  • Establishes and monitors staff development plans and goals
  • Ensures adherence business policies and procedures
  • Participates in hiring and coaching of staff following company philosophies, processes, policies and tools
  • Works to build and maintain quality standards and conveys an expectation of high software quality
  • Understand customer expectations and improve customer satisfaction related to the product offering.
  • Capable of building relationships and communicate effectively to executive level management.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience in a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience leading teams and/or managing direct reports
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing and developing applications
  • Experience with .NET, ASP.NET, MVC, C# and Entity Framework
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio Development environment
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL
  • Action oriented with a focus on results
  • Demonstrated positive work ethic with a strong commitment to achieving goals
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are essential

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum Methodologies
  • Experience with Issue Tracking Software (ZenDesk, Bugzilla, etc.)
  • Atlassian tool experience highly desirable, specifically Jira and AHA!
  • Understanding of ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security
