Engineered Optics is a new business unit within Applied. The business is transitioning from incubation to pilot manufacturing, and then HVM. The purpose of the role is to define the manufacturing strategy and execute it. The person will assess the current situation, and define and execute the plan to take the business from prototype capacity thru pilot and to high volume.

Key Responsibilities

  • Determine how to best utilize the current equipment resources to enable pilot manufacturing at maximum capacity.
  • Staff and ramp the pilot line volumes and yield.
  • Deliver agreed upon volumes to customers.
  • Work together with the team to define and select a HVM site.
  • Secure the site together with facilities management.
  • Plan production at the new HVM site, equip it, ramp it, and sustain and continuously improve it
  • All manufacturing decisions
  • Budget TBD, but order $100M+ in HVM phase
  • Deliver quality product to customers per forecasted demand
  • Increase utilization and reduce cost
  • Expand capacity to meet the demand forecast

Functional Knowledge

  • 15 years work experience, with at least 5 as head of manufacturing
  • Has in depth experience of manufacturing high volume physical parts
  • Ramped a factory to high yield and utilization
  • Delivered millions of parts per year
  • Selected, secured and built out a new factory
  • Reduced cost and improved KPIs in a high volume manufacturing facility
  • Demonstrates broad and comprehensive understanding of different systems, theories and practices as well as the changing business environment

  • Applies in-depth knowledge of own segment/function, business and commercial expertise to differentiate itself from the competition
