Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with key business partners (sales, marketing, supply chain and finance) to develop and deliver the logistics strategy in support of business growth.
  • Lead a multi-site logistics organization focused on delivering superior service to our customers, while managing costs, improving processes and meeting company objectives (service levels and sales goals – especially quarter-end, inventory accuracy, cost, etc).
  • Physical logistics – Oversee the warehousing and transportation of all materials (raw materials through finished goods) through the Trex Supply Chain. This includes movements internal to the Trex sites, as well as external from vendors and to customers.
  • Decking yards and warehousing – Manage the creation and implementation of operational processes with appropriate performance measurements; negotiate leases of warehouses as appropriate; streamline the supply chain to reduce the need for warehousing points by optimizing lean supply chain/inventory practices in conjunction with support from production; and drive improvement in all warehousing operational areas. Oversight includes two plant finished goods yards and warehousing of over 1.2 million square feet (a railing distribution center and two logistics centers).
  • Transportation – Manage all carrier relationships; negotiate rates and contracts; develop and manage carrier RFQ’s; and monitor carrier performance. Manage the company’s transportation spend of more than $25 million.
  • Inventory Control – Work with the Supply Chain group to insure proper procedures are in place to support inventory accuracy exceeding 98 percent.
  • Order Management – Directly manage the order management department, insuring a customer-focused environment, accuracy and timeliness in order management, processes and procedures are in place to support corporate requirements around order management, pricing, invoicing, etc.
  • Packaging – Work with Product Management, insure product packaging meets the needs of the market both in terms of aesthetics and durability. Interface with external vendors and consultants as appropriate.

Required Skills

Required Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in supply chain/logistics or business administration; a MBA is preferred.
  • Eight-to-10 years’ relevant logistics or supply chain experience.
  • Five or more years’ supervisory experience.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and experience with contracts and leases.
  • APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) certification is preferred.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • ERP systems background.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
