Job Description
The GEI Bakersfield office is currently seeking a strong project manager to lead the engineering, design and construction management of major storage and conveyance projects in the San Joaquin Valley for existing clients in the agricultural water district sector. Potential specialties should include Water Conveyance Systems Design (Pipelines, Pumping Stations, and Canals), and Groundwater Recharge Facility Design. The candidate should have a working understanding of California Water Resources, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and hydrology, structural, civil, and environmental engineering and construction management related to water resources. The ideal candidate will be interested in becoming a leader in the company with the desire to market our services and expand the office operations.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
Senior Project Manager for medium and large-size projects.
Performs wide range of engineering or other analyses.
Has responsibility for developing and meeting project plans, schedules and budgets.
Supervises and trains all staff necessary to complete assignments.
Assists upper level management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor.
Owns the client relationship for managed projects.
Provides input in staff performance evaluations; mentors and coaches junior staff.
Prepares proposals to provide professional services.
Represents GEI in communications and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering or other assignments.
Develops new business in areas of specialty.
Travel to project sites required, including overnight travel.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
15+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical, structural, civil, water resources, environmental or ecology with 8+ years in a project management role. P.E. license in California.
B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in area of technical specialty, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated entrepreneurial attitude and ability to generate new work and grow a business segment, with a proven track record of success.
Seller-Doer with strong client relationships, and entrepreneurial spirit, and a track record of generating new work.
Diverse technical background including a deep expertise in area of specialty.
Recognized for technical excellence and the development of client-focused, creative and practical solutions.
Collegial team builder with excellent interpersonal skills.
Broad regional understanding of market needs and emerging trends.
Professional registration and/or certification in area of expertise.
Strong report writing, communication and presentation skills, willingness to travel on short assignments, as needed.
Valid U.S. driver s license.
