Job Responsibilities

  • This position provides wellness/recreation leadership functions such as department administration and resident programming, as assigned, in a caring, safe and efficient manner and is responsible to perform the following according to location standards and procedures.
  • Responsible for overall department administration. Establishes accurate budget for department; works within budget.
  • Recruits and hires employees that are properly placed in their job.
  • Actively works to retain staff.
  • Completes/oversees completion of work schedules that provide adequate staffing and organized work assignments.
  • Incorporates employees’ personal needs and requests when possible.
  • Researches initiatives and needs to organize the work environment so it runs well and makes sense to those working in it.
  • Provides opportunities for staff growth. Initiates quality improvement studies and follows up.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in area of expertise. Implements new methods, innovations, procedures laws, and regulations when appropriate.
  • Plans programming that are varied, and well-balanced to address residents’ individual physical, social/interpersonal, emotional, vocational and intellectual interests and needs.
  • Leads or assists with providing resident programs within and outside the community.
  • Determines whether residents’ needs and interests are being met through program involvement.
  • Encourages and assists residents with transportation to activities of choice. Interacts with residents and maintains resident-centered conversations.
  • Assures residents are invited to community events and activities.
  • Review of calendar of events and notifies residents of scheduled program.
  • Charismatic and comfortable in front of a camera (in house tv station).
  • Encourages and assists residents with transportation to activities of choice.

Qualifications

  • Have the equivalent of a Bachelor’s Degree in recreation or leisure studies or an equivalent degree in Health and Wellness or related field.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience acting as an exercise specialist working in healthcare is preferred or minimum of two years as an exercise specialist or fitness instructor in senior/healthcare setting
  • Management supervisory experience preferred.
  • State certification as required; CPR and First Aid certification, Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer Certification.
  • Ability and desire to be creative in adapting programs and supplies to meet individual resident needs.
