The Activity Director will plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Activity Department in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Executive Director, to ensure that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct and document a thorough assessment of each residentâs recreational needs
- Develop and implement treatment plans addressing therapeutic recreation programs to meet psychological, physical, and social needs of residents
- Demonstrate a passion for caring, honesty, integrity, and respect by interactions with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors
- Comply with evaluation, treatment and documentation guidelines
- Provide supervision for assigned staff, including performance evaluations and problem solving
- Assist in developing a budget for recreation services and ensure adherence to established budget
- Develop and supervise an active volunteer program
- Arrange for recreation activities outside the facility, as needed
- Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibilities to maintain current competency
- Ensure services cover evening and weekend programming
Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification
- Must possess, as a minimum, a Bachelorâs Degree in therapeutic recreation or equivalent training/experience
- Must possess a minimum of two (2) years experience in therapeutic recreation
- A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience in a setting serving the same age/type of resident served by this facility
- Must possess the demonstrated ability to assess recreation needs and develop and implement a program to meet those needs
- Must possess a working knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirements
- Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel
- Must have the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing activity services
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning
- Experience in an environment which focuses on dementia care, preferred
- Excellent communication, organization and time management skills
- Basic typing skills and computer knowledge: familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Publisher and creative software
- Driver requirements; valid driverâs license with good driving record. May be required to take a driving test
