The Sheridan of Cooper City is seeking an experienced Director of Memory Care to supervise direct care professionals and dementia activity professionals in our memory care neighborhoods. As the Director of Memory Care and the in-house dementia expert, you will conduct cognitive assessments, facilitate monthly dementia training classes, build strong teams, provide guidance to residents and families related to changing needs and ensure the integrity of the quality of care and dementia programming delivered. The Memory Care Director will be the process owner to implement and oversee the Memory Care points of distinction established in the areas of Embrace Wellness, Embrace Enrichment, Embrace Creativity, Embrace Connection, Embrace Challenge and Embrace Teamwork. Experience in a healthcare setting working directly with dementia and managing a large staff is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises the Memory Program staff including hiring, training, coaching mentoring Caregivers and Activity Assistants.
- Conduct interviews, orientation, and ongoing training of Memory Care Team employee’s in accordance with employee training policy and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintains regular and consistent communication with the management team and the Dementia Program staff
- Coach and counsel departmental employees in accordance with Senior Lifestyle human resources policies.
- Manage Memory Care employees in partnership with the Health and Wellness director or designee.
- Conducts cognitive assessments on prospective and current residents translating outcomes to service plans related to care and programming
- Promote the company’s Embrace philosophy in all aspects of his/her role to include interactions with resident, family, and staff and the daily oversight of Memory Care operations in partnership with the Health and Wellness Director.
- Organize the monthly programming calendar and needed supplies.
- Plan, coordinate, and evaluate Memory Care resident programs.
- Ensures communication and involvement with the residents’ family members through special events, scheduled meetings, and quarterly meetings
- Lead high quality innovative programs in Memory Care to include a minimum of 3-5 self-lead programs daily.
- Implement and monitor programs and processes to promote excellence in programming while maintaining a high level of resident/family/staff satisfaction in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Adhere to the budget guidelines for the department.
- Maintain current knowledge of Alzheimer’s/dementia topics and participates Memory Care Department Director training as assigned. Provide education, training, and hands on support to community staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree, Minimum of 1-year experience working directly with the elderly or individuals with disabilities. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a memory program setting. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings. Minimum of 2 years management experience in a Memory Program setting.
PREFERENCES: Bachelor’s degree in Gerontology, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Recreational or Occupational Therapy.4-5 years of supervisory or managerial experience. Proficiency with MS Office products
