The Director of Cultivation will be accountable for overseeing and integrating operations across all aspects of Cultivation, including development of new genetic varieties by designing and launching a breeding program, nursery propagation, vegetating, flowering, harvesting, curing, processing, trimming and safe storage of flower during multiple production cycles annually. This role provides both high-level strategy and day-to-day operational leadership by overseeing the team members at each stage of cultivation, improving operational efficiencies, and working with company leadership on quarterly and annual plans and goals.


Must work closely with the executive team on forecasting production yields, implementing operational processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, lowering cost inputs and maximizing successful harvests of the most desirable varieties.

Requires an in-depth knowledge of cannabis cultivation, propagation, and plant science as well as strategic experience driving operational efficiencies and managing a team. Heavy experience across cultivation, propagation and breeding of cannabis is required.


Cultivation Production Criteria

  • Must consistently hit 3 pounds but no less then 2.25 pounds per HPS light 25 square feet. Yield is determined by harvest wet weight multiplied by 90% or by final retail flower sold per light
  • Must be able to cycle between 12-16+ plants per light to ensure optimal production from different genetics while staying within 5000 plant count limit at all times
  • Must add at least 3 new genetics into retail stores every quarter while maintaining a healthy library of mothers of other genetics
  • Must keep cost per retail trimmed pound includes labor, medium, nutrients, electricity, co2, etc under $800 and be constantly lowering overall COGS.
  • Must pass 90% of all flower testing with little to no post trimming treatment
  • Will not allow any early hermaphroditism to lead to pollination seeding of flowering plants.
  • Must work with Trim Manager to consistently hit at least 1.25 pounds trimmed per trimmer in an 8 hour day on average taken from statistical average of each harvest


Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Managing people: schedules and workflow efficiency on projects.
  • Monitoring: environmentals, feeding schedules, general cultivation operations and plant health
  • Emergency: always available 7 days a week/24 hours a day to deal with a cultivation emergency, i.e. broken fertigation valves, power outage, etc
  • Clean room Protocol
  • Meeting Regulatory and Compliance Standards
  • Oversee planning and production of all stages of cannabis cultivation
  • Monitor fertigation system, plant spacing, nutrient tank levels, Pest management/identification, Quality control, Maintenance of equipment, Supervise and coordinate tasks to align with department goals


Duties and responsibilities

  • Assemble and manage breeding, propagation and cultivation teams to successfully grow, harvest and cure commercial scale flower harvests of desirable varieties.
  • Be responsible for updating and improving SOPs to continually gain efficiency in production and remain in compliance with changing regulations.
  • Successfully design and implement data-capturing and reporting processes to accurately convey cultivation operations performance to executive team.
  • Maintain a strong focus on improvement of quality, scale, and efficiency of operations. Source and implement equipment and technology solutions to improve operational efficiency and data analysis.
  • Develop a breeding program that identifies best phenotypes for reproduction based on quality of genetics and market desirability.
  • Communicate effectively with retail and logistics manager to convey up-to-date inventory information.
  • Establish operational policies that promote company vision.
  • In depth understanding of all aspects & components of water system and routine maintenance associated.
  • In depth knowledge of reverse osmosis water filtration system and routine maintenance associated.
  • Routine maintenance and calibration of fertigation system, PH & EC meters and components.
  • Routine maintenance checks on fertigation unit and components.
  • Scheduling and execution of Nutrient recipe changes throughout cycles.
  • Scheduling of routine oversight of nutrient feedings.
  • Inventory and order scheduling for all nutrients and cultivation needs.
  • Scheduling of all propagation tasks cloning, transplanting, pruning, harvesting etc
  • Scheduling of Genetics to be ran/extracted.
  • Management of personnel scheduling, time management, corrective action, Hr issues etc
  • Safety and compliance management.
  • Project all known cultivation costs such as nutrients, medium, pots, filters, bulbs, etc.
  • Provide CFO with purchasing schedule tied to production
  • Consistently get multiple quotes and provide CFO with cheapest and effective Seller of products / equipment
  • Overseeing of Bio-track tracking and compliance through all stages from start to finish.
  • In depth understanding of environmental control sensor systems and routine adjustment according to stage of plant growth and associated V.P.D.
  • Monitoring and oversight of all components of CO2 system and safety protocols of that system.
  • Designing and execution of clean room contamination protocol.
  • In depth understanding of Cultivation Budget management.
  • Must train personnel in key positions for redundancies to ensure the integrity of cultivation operations ie: Hanna, Growtroinix, etc
  • Multi department quality control
  • Keeping an eye out for pests and implementing corrective actions and pest management techniques if
  • Managing and identifying problems or deficiencies


Qualifications

  • Strong leadership track record with 5+ years of experience in operations, propagation, breeding and cultivation of cannabis and a total of 10+ years of experience in some form of horticulture.
  • Strong personnel management skills with teams of 15+ people
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities. Successful history of building high-performing teams of various experience levels.
  • Willing to navigate between high-level strategy and operational execution.
  • Ability to directly perform data analysis in order to create operational recommendations.
  • Extensive understanding of the cannabis industry.
  • Ability to navigate changing priorities with minimal information and use good judgment in stressful situations.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a relentlessly positive attitude.
  • Experience working within strict regulations and compliance.
