Responsible for managing the Sub 0 permanent academic budget of $10M (comprised of 48 ladder faculty and approximately 300 full and part-time temporary faculty and academic apprentices).
As a member of the Dean’s Office staff, incumbent is expected to provide regular updates to the Dean, Assistant Dean and Department Chairs regarding issues of concern within the School as well as campus wide. Incumbent participates in monthly meetings with Department Leadership to review and advise on issues related to current and pending academic appointments and outstanding HR issues. Provide information regarding recent or anticipated changes to the CALL and the Academic Personnel Manual which will impact procedures and processing of academic personnel actions. Supervision of and guidance to department staff should be provided on an ad hoc daily basis. Serve as primary liaison to UCLA Campus Human Resources and as functional expert for People Admin. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, university personnel policies, and UC labor agreements. Develop procedures and oversee policy implementation. Advise and mentor managers and supervisors with regards to staff personnel matters.

Incumbent attends department meetings as requested by the Chairs and meets with individual faculty members as requested; acts as liaison between faculty members and the Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel in resolving confidential issues related to interpersonal conflicts and provides information regarding Senate committees associated charges and grievance procedures.
Major areas of responsibility include maintenance and balancing of academic staffing rosters; employee and labor relations; preparation and oversight of annual academic allocations and expenditures; recruitment and retention; analyses of funding and preparation of statistical data and reports; staff development; performance management; monitoring personnel and payroll transactions; oversight of medical and unpaid leaves; and personnel records maintenance.
