The following is a brief description of responsibilities to be performed by the Design Director. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and create new innovative products and update existing products that deliver to specific consumer needs and help support the sales goals of the company
  • Ensure garments meet fit and construction goals and consumer fit acceptance for their respective brands
  • Responsible for being highly influential in the development of the Seasonal and Monthly Concepts and expanding beyond existing products into a cohesive collection
  • Partners across Merchandising and Marketing to collaborate and lead on fabric, print, trim, silhouette, outfitting, and fit across multiple seasons and all stages of the development cycle
  • Develop long and short-term strategic product plans within the team and design processes to support business strategies while collaborating cross-functionally
  • Develop and promote strong relationships with internal and external services, vendors, and suppliers
  • Responsible for staying abreast of current market and trade trends through frequent travel
  • Involved in research and analysis of upcoming fashion, market trends and competitive product offerings to understand the over-all market and to identify opportunities and design features relevant to our product
  • Understand and communicate key brand strategies and consumer needs to direct the design team effectively
  • Perform other duties as assigned and apparent.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient in the use Microsoft Office, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Strong merchandising, product, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision making skills.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Must be able to communicate in a professional manner and respond with timeliness.
  • Resourceful and able to research problems and recommend solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Trend and fashion awareness with ability to understand current trends, competition and market.
  • Requires strong knowledge of sewing techniques, pattern construction, fitting, grading and costing.
  • Expertise knowledge of fabrics and pattern-making skills.
  • Ability to reprioritize projects frequently.
  • Independent, self-motivated, team player.
  • Able to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in Apparel Design
  • 2+ years’ experience managing a design team.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient in English
