JOB SUMMARY
As the University’s representative to over 30,000 alumni, the Associate Vice President, Advancement & Alumni Relations of Marymount University has the primary responsibility for implementing MU’s strategic plan for expanding the reach and engaging alumni for the purposes of University growth and sustainability. The executive director will plan, develop, execute and oversee the necessary steps for implementation and maintenance of a dynamic international network, expanding mentoring opportunities, student recruiting and informative programming for alumni. Works with major units of the university including, but not limited to, career services, student services and athletics in order to maximize their efforts to the alumni. Provides leadership to and management to all University staff which serve as alumni representatives of individual schools/units and central staff which provide services and communications to Marymount’s alumni.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement a comprehensive alumni relations program.
- Establish regional programs based on the understanding of market segments and projections of long term effectiveness.
- Provide leadership for the University wide alumni efforts and oversee the staff and all operations of the alumni department.
- Work with the VP of Enrollment and Student Affairs to develop programming and engagement opportunities for current students to interact with alumni and to develop a spirit of “alumni in training.”
- Coordinate and supervise the development and publication of the bi-monthly newsletter and other publications for Alumni.
- Oversee the alumni section of the University’s web site and other alumni communications. Create ideas and work with Marketing on ad and promotional campaigns to reach alumni and/or promote the success of MU alumni.
- Develop and promote continuing education program and materials for alumni.
- Coordinate the annual section of Distinguished Alumni Awards recipients for the annual recognition in conjunction with Homecoming and Alumni week activities.
- Design and distribute promotional packets to new graduates to promote the alumni association and alumni benefits.
- Coordinate and implement appropriate activities for new students during Orientation Week and for new graduates in conjunction with commencement.
- Coordinate and solicit support from appropriate vendors and partners to facilitate the efforts and growth of the Alumni Association and its programs.
- Work with Admissions to involve alumni volunteers in the recruitment of students on a national level.
OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS
- Self- starter who is capable of motivating volunteers.
- Ability to work as a team member within a University setting.
- Ability to manage staff and organize work flow.
- Ability to establish working relationships with alumni, students, faculty, staff, volunteers, Advisory Board and the general public.
- Required to work weekends and evening for special events. Overnight travel to meet with Alumni and friends of the university is periodically required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
Five (5) years of experience in a university institutional advancement office or in a marketing and sales related field.
Licenses or Certifications
CFRE is preferred. Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
Financial Responsibility
Manages department budget according to University policies and procedures.
Supervision
Ability to work with minimal supervision and use independent judgment. Supervises student employees.
Special Knowledge
Experience using advancement software.
