Provides expertise and executive leadership to guide the College’s commitment to promoting a culture of collegiality, inclusiveness, respect, and competence in support of the College’s mission and strategic goals. This position also serves as the Title IX Coordinator for the College.
This is a key position. Duties 1 – 9 listed in the job specific task list are essential.
1. Provides expertise and leadership to all constituencies of HACC and develops broad-based partnerships through the College and HACC’s service region; directs the College’s Office of Inclusion and Diversity, related programs, training, and committees; serves as a forum and catalyst for new and ongoing programs and initiatives throughout the college, our campuses and our disciplines; reports and advises the President’s Cabinet and the College at large regarding issues of access, equity, diversity and inclusion.
2. Ensures compliance with reporting, investigating and adjudicating processes related to sex/gender discrimination in accordance with the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (Title IX) and the US Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (VAWA).
3. Supervises disability services staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintains a healthy and safe working environment; makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions.
4. Collaborates closely with other College divisions, such as the Office of Human Resources (OHR) and the Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (OSAEM) to monitor, measure, and report campus climate and use results to drive strategic planning; liaisons with the Board of Trustees’ Inclusion and Diversity Committee by reporting on diversity and inclusion initiatives and accepting guidance to support the College’s diversity efforts; collaborates with and advises faculty, staff, students, suppliers, vendors and other stakeholders on the development of policies and procedures responsive to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in academia.
5.Works with human resources staff to develop employee diversity recruitment efforts; ensures employee hiring, development and retention initiatives are free from bias; promotes diversity and cultural competence within the performance management system; and monitors employee demographic advancement.
6. Coordinates with student services staff on the development and promotion of student life activities that promote diversity, cultural sensitivity and inclusion and equity, including providing outreach, recruitment, admission, retention and success strategies related to historically marginalized students; coordinates with the ADA Compliance Officer advancement and human resources staff to ensure that the College complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and provides services which help students with disabilities succeed in their academic pursuits and to address and mitigate concerns arising from complaints of discrimination and harassment.
7. Collaborates with academic affairs staff to incorporate concepts of inclusion and diversity and social justice into the curriculum, methodology and pedagogy.
8. Builds relationships with members of the communities which HACC serves to hear and address ideas and concerns related to the College’s diversity efforts; identifies and coordinates training and events to educate and enhance the College community on diversity, inclusion and equal employment/educational opportunity.
9. Travel to all campuses and to the external College community is required.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Master’s Degree and 8 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
5 years supervisory/management experience
