National Council on Aging (NCOA) is based in Washington, DC and is seeking the right candidate for a Technical Product Manager/ScrumMaster of BenefitsCheckUp, (http://www.benefitscheckup.org); the nation’s most comprehensive web-based benefits screening tool to help older adults find out about and enroll in benefits programs that help pay for prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other basic needs. There are over 2,500 federal, state and private benefits programs included in BenefitsCheckUp.

As a Technical Product Manager/ScrumMaster of BenefitsCheckUp, you will be responsible for all technical aspects of the product, from sales and post-sales customer engagement to ensuring timely product enhancements, fixes, and support. You will partner with the Program Product Manager to execute on the product vision and roadmap; working towards achieving social impact goals approved by the NCOA Board of Directors. This is a hands-on position that requires attention to detail, sound judgment, critical thinking, leadership, and a sense of urgency.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, a learner, and detail-oriented in order to support BenefitsCheckUp holistically.

Responsibilities

  • Become proficient in the product’s capabilities so that you are the subject-matter-expert, can perform customer demoes as needed, and engage with customer to enhance their product experience.
  • In collaboration with the business, set priorities on product deliverables managed in Sprints.
  • Responsible for new product-related projects to ensure adherence to budget, schedule and scope.
  • In collaboration with information technology, ensure timely communication and resolution to product incidents.
  • Participate in after-hours deployments and/or incident resolution to ensure proper point-of-escalation as needed as well as managing business communications related to releases and/or incident resolutions.
  • Implement and enhance operations around the technical product lifecycle.
  • Create appropriate user stories for Sprint backlog collaborating with product owner.
  • Assume ScrumMaster responsibilities managing the Agile Scrum Cycle: Backlog Grooming to Sprints to Sprint Reviews, Releases, and Retrospectives.
  • Provide support to the Team(s) remove impediments, address conflicts, etc.
  • The job will require cross-departmental coordination and communication and will therefore require strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Provide internal and external communication as needed, improving transparency and collaboration.
  • Work with the Team to help determine the best technical implementation options to deliver the right solutions at the right time.
  • Must be willing to jump in on other assignments as needed including client implementation activities.
  • Perform customer demoes as needed and engage with customer to enhance their product experience

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in technical product management with digital products
  • Agile practitioner for at least 3 years. Certified ScrumMaster preferred.
  • Client implementation experience a plus.
  • Project management expertise required, PMP certification a plus.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong technical product management lifecycle experience especially digital products.
  • Strong customer experience in both a sales and post-sales technical capacity
  • A systems thinker
  • Well organized and attentive to detail
  • Knowledge of nonprofit organizations’ operations a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities such as conflict/issue resolution
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including the proven ability to adapt to a dynamic environment and manage multiple projects
