About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE’s) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

This Project Manager will be in the Metro East Design & Performance division within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (TDOU). The successful candidate will be the Grid Design and Performance Project Manager (MPP1) and will be responsible for supporting/managing line construction and related program/project activities through contracted resources, while ensuring that all contract managed work is completed safely, on-time, on-budget and on-scope. This position will report to the Transmission Grid Design & Performance Manager within the Grid.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the overall technical management of Grid construction contracts (OH, UG and civil) and contractors performing assigned work activities within the Grid.
  • Acts as the single point of contact to the contractors for in-Grid contractor activities.
  • Ensures safe and timely completion of work while managing to compliance/operating dates, budget objectives, and SCE construction standards.
  • Ensures all contractor work is completed in an acceptable manner prior to acceptance.
  • Reviews contractor daily logs and progress reports.
  • Manages the work order process, outages/switching, material process, material lay down areas, invoicing/accounting processes, and approvals for contractor performed work.
  • Resolves contractor and customer issues in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Works with the Grid Management to provide additional contractor resource support when requested for emergent and storm related activities as well as managing operational components of all assigned contracts.
  • Responsible to collaborate with Transmission RPPM to gather data for the resource plan and scorecard relative to contractor managed work and performance.
  • Collaborates with RPPM, Grid management, and other relevant stakeholders on contracted scheduling activities and utilization of contractors while maintaining accurate reporting of work statuses, performance and cost/budget information.
  • Supports the RFP process, bid process, job walks, bidder conferences, contractor qualification process meetings, and reviews.
  • Attends and supports planned contractor performance meetings at regularly scheduled intervals with relevant stakeholders to keep contractors on-focus and on-track relative to scope, schedule, cost, and performance.
  • Works closely with Grid management and internal Grid resources, Transmission RPPM, Transmission Construction Support and Supply Chain Management on an on-going basis to support the development of productive and efficient work processes.
  • Acts as a liaison to ensure contractor safety, quality, and environmental compliance by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Works with cities, other local government organizations, and customers in conjunction with SCE internal compliance or permitting groups to obtain permits, negotiate terms of work, and maintain positive SCE relations with all external entities.
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of overall experience in project, program, operations and or contract management.
  • Must have three years experience in any of the following: Transmission and or Distribution Electrical Planning/Design, Construction, or Engineering.

Desired Qualifications
  • Must possess knowledge of construction management and project management principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in transmission work methods, equipment, tools, materials, and vehicles.
  • Demonstrated experience with rules, regulations and regulatory requirements governing transmission line construction, maintenance and operations (such as G.O. 95, 128, 165, 131D, Rule 20).
  • Demonstrated experience in transmission power systems and operations, transmission design/planning policies and procedures, and construction/maintenance/operations methods and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of SCE policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing information and data, developing recommendations and solutions, and effectively communicating recommendations to management.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings, developing and engaging in discussions with a variety of audiences and levels across the organization.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop and execute business plans, manage risks, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
  • Construction Management/Project Management Certification.
  • Experience using SCE Supplier Portal
  • Experience using SAP
