Why does the job exist?
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
The purpose of the Project Manager III is to manage a new unit within the IT organization at NMCD, the Project Management Office (PMO). This position will be responsible for all projects within the agency and the daily management of project management and business analysis personnel.
How does it get done?
The Project Manager will be responsible for all personnel actions for existing and prospective staff within the PMO unit; will have input into the decision-making process on the best approach to address a business need through the use of technology; will assist IT leadership in the creation of business cases to document the project need of the Agency; will determine the specific mechanism needed to manage the project based on the selected approach and the size and complexity of the project; will be responsible to ensure that the PMO staff are appropriately identifying and documenting business and technical requirements relating to the project; will be responsible for the determination of what procurement method is needed to accomplish specific work needed for the project.
Who are the customers?
New Mexico Corrections Department employees and divisions: Adult Prisons, Probation and Parole, Recidivism Reduction, Training Academy, Corrections Industries; all administrative personnel; Adult Parole Board.
Ideal Candidate
- Capable management of cross-functional and physically disparate project teams
- Strong analytical, financial and budgeting skills
- Proven knowledge of the State of New Mexico procurement process
- Certification with the Project Management Institute (PMI) preferred
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business Administration, or Information Technology and six (6) years of experience in software development, project management, or systems analysis, with a minimum two (2) years of experience in the PM role. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below. CAPM/PMI-ACP certification may be substituted for one year of experience. PMP/PgMP certification may be substituted for two year of experience.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
