POSITION SUMMARY

The Sr. Project Manager will be the primary project management interface for assigned strategic customer accounts accountable for driving sales, operations and project management. This individual assures on-time delivery of services to customers while managing and ensuring all facets of high-quality projects are delivered on budget and within schedule resulting in superior customer satisfaction and additional work for E2 Optics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safety is our number one priority. Monitor and ensure compliance with all E2 Optics, customer and applicable OSHA safety requirements.

  • Responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of projects.
  • Responsible for forecasts, financial objectives and WIP (Work in Progress) reports.
  • Cultivate and maintain customer relationships to secure and expand business opportunities.
  • Coordinates with corporate human resources, information technology and administration as needed to accomplish business objectives and meet legal and compliance requirements.
  • Oversees hiring and succession planning for the project. Assesses direct and indirect hiring requirements per budget and works with corporate recruiter/staffing partners to fill open positions with qualified candidates.
  • Ensures that training and development needs are met and provides assistance and support as needed.
  • Assists with performance appraisals and provides measurable feedback to HR and suggestions for improved performance. Formulates and implements employee corrective actions as needed.
  • Provides coaching, development and guidance to direct reports and/or team members, encouraging and guiding them to remain current with emerging technologies.
  • Provides leadership to project personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication.
  • Conducts meetings to ensure that personnel are well informed of changes in programs, policies, and procedures.

Pre-Construction

  • Interface with the sales team and provide pre-sales functional and/or technical support for developing opportunities.
  • Obtain and file all documents needed for project estimating and engineering, including but not limited to drawings, specification, project requirements, and bid forms
  • Leads the estimating team for large construction projects including preparing estimateswith a detailed review of plans, specifications and bid form: gather or develop data such as scope of work, subcontractor quotes, floor plans, etc. to produce customer proposals.
  • Oversee the completion of the estimate to include all required documents (Company Insurance, Company Certifications, Resumes, Estimate and pricing, Scope of Work.)
  • Attend Pre-Bid Meetings and document all findings.
  • Attend Post-Bid Interview and serve as the primary POC for E2 Optics for project specific questions.
  • Assist on Design-Build projects to develop design, project plan, and project implementation.
  • Review previous project Continuous Improvement logs to determine items that require additional planning and attention.
  • Specific to the general contractor or customer, establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policies.
  • Review resumes and conduct first-level interviews for direct employees and staffing contractors for projects.

Construction

  • Develop a logical stepped CPM Schedule that will meet the budget and project timeline.
  • Determine requirements for labor on the project and work with local Operations teams to ensure proper resources are available.
  • Determine requirements for office/warehouse and coordinate delivery of these items.
  • Determine requirements for E2 Optics assets (testers, splicers, etc.) and coordinate to ensure resources are available.
  • Manage project scheduling requirements including material purchases, deliveries and returns, identification of products and parts, quantities, timing of material purchases, etc. to control costs and meet contract requirements.
  • Manage subcontractor and vendor relationships; streamline project activities for efficiencies; communicate with staff and upper management to keep all informed of customer and job requirements
  • Resolving customer issues and concerns or plan deviations; communicate with internal and external stakeholders and upper management to ensure customer needs and priorities are being properly addressed.
  • Work with estimating department or individually to prepare any and all change quotations for presentation to the prime client. Negotiate all change quotations to a conclusion.
  • Monitor project to ensure safety, quality, schedule, and cost are all being maintained.
  • Monitor installation activities in conjunction with the onsite E2 personnel to ensure project is delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Conduct regular job walks inspecting safety and quality.
  • Drive consistent training for safety and manufacturer specific installation.
  • Maintain Continuous Improvement logs for all projects.
  • Ensure teams across multiple projects are communicating and working to become a single strong team.
  • Manage job cost/profitability and schedules through internal systems and reports: work with customer teams to meet master schedule such as providing specific work dates for scheduled items; communicate with internal resources regarding project updates, scope changes, order changes, and other events impacting the project; ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met. Proactively track projects and evaluate cost vs. performance to ensure projects come in on time and within budget.

Project Close-out

  • Complete post-project walk through ensuring the customer’s quality expectations have been met or exceeded.
  • Oversee the development of all project closeout documents (As-Built drawings, Test Results, Continuous Improvement, etc.)
  • Follow up with Customer and General Contractors to close projects out quickly and efficiently.

Travel: The individual in this role should be able and willing to travel as required by E2.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • AAS or BS in Construction Management or Construction Engineering preferred
  • PMP Certified
  • RCDD Certified
  • BICSI Certifications preferred
  • Minimum of OSHA 30, OSHA 510/500 preferred
  • Familiarity with all major cable manufactures installation standards and testing criteria including, but not limited to Corning, Panduit, Systimax, Commscope, Corning, and others.

Experience:

  • 5 years of project management experience in fiber optic and category 5 / 6 cabling with a major U.S. commercial contractor.
  • Experience managing mission critical data centers
  • Extensive experience managing large multi-million construction sites
  • Experience managing teams of 50-100 technicians on job sites

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of data infrastructure industry including technology, quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Knowledge of the PMBOK Guides and Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Advanced project management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Demonstrated team building and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills, including excellent customer service skills.

  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.) and MS Project. Auto CAD preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The standard work environment for this position is an indoors business office and construction environment. Ability to use a computer and/or hand tools while sitting or standing for extended periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, use hands, stoop, kneel, bend, rotate, push, pull, reach with hands and arms on intermittent to regular basis daily. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet. The employee may be required to work in tight, confided spaces. The employee must demonstrate regular and on-time attendance. There could be a requirement of occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
