Dell’s Server CTO Group is looking for a top-notch software engineer to help architect and prototype innovative new enterprise features and products. This is a challenging and rewarding position where projects involve leading and bleeding edge technologies in determining how they meet future customer needs or address their pain points.
- This individual will be responsible for applied research and advanced engineering in the development of strategies and architectures plus the creation of concept vehicles and integration of new technologies and features.
- Contributes to creation and presentation of strategy and architecture documentation
- Modifies existing software products (drivers, OS, firmware, BIOS, etc.) to add new functions, adapt to new hardware, improve performance or enhance product usability Engage with Dell planning teams (Marketing, CTO, Advanced Engineering)
- Participate in early product development
- Participates in product definition and feature prioritization, including customer usability studies. Performs competitive analysis for features at a product level scope
- Drives idea generation for new software products or for the next version of an existing product.
- Protects Intellectual property by working appropriate legal elements (ex: procurement, patents, and open source).
- Should be able to develop architectures from business and customer requirements.
- The ideal candidate shall have a thorough understanding of server architectures and technologies, as well as associated peripherals, firmware, software, and OS. Further, the candidate must effectively use their understanding of the subject matter in order to have a direct impact on system-level performance and new concepts.
- The individual must be a fast learner, show attention to detail, and the desire to find the right answer, not necessarily the quick answer.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in low level software development
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines or equivalent work experience
- Experience architecting software products, influencing product lines, specifications, and features.
- Able to code and effectively guide others to code flexible and scalable programs that meet complex requirements. Able to constructively coach less-senior engineers.

Proficiency in C required; experience in assembly and OO languages a plus
- Embedded systems programming experience

Linux and Windows programming experience necessary; expertise a plus
- Advanced knowledge of modern OS concepts a plus
- Device-driver experience a large plus
- Experience or familiarity with BIOS programming is a plus
- Experience with software development models (e.g. Agile) is a plus
- Experience with performance benchmarking tools is a plus
- Technical problem solving skills / debug capabilities
- Experience with analyzers and other HW tools to debug complex system SW issues
- Familiarity with Intel system architectures
- Ability to analyze electrical schematic diagrams a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and an interest in working in a collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality results, prioritize activities, and to manage time effectively.
- Proven ability to collaborative with peers, leaders, and internal and external customers.
