Function/Duties of Position
The Contract Officer (CO) edits, negotiates, and manages the execution of clinical trials contracts. The CO also provides professional consultation, advice, and direction to all levels of University staff and corporate sponsors regarding contracting issues such that OHSU clinical trial contracts will best meet legal sufficiency, risk management and financial requirements for the University research objectives. One of the main roles of this position is to continually seek opportunities to improve contracting processes as well as improve customer service.
Because of the sensitive nature of certain contracts, this position requires that the information processed and communicated through this office be maintain confidential and shared only with appropriate and applicable parties.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorâs Degree, with position-related coursework
- At least three years experience in contract negotiation or related clinical trial experience.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work with emphasis on tracking for rapid status-check.
- Demonstrated excellent analytical skills with the ability to understand and synthesize complex guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to interpret, convey, explain, and uphold regulatory requirements to administrative and investigator clients in the OHSU research community.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately comprehend and interpret medical and scientific terminology, concepts, and methodology.
- Thorough understanding of budgeting principles and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with department clients at all levels, including research investigators, administrators, managers, and clerical staff.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- Advanced computer skills, including facility with the Internet, spreadsheets, word-processing, database entry and reports, and email.
Preferred Qualifications
- Major in science or health field.
- Juris Doctor or Paralegal Degree
- At least three years experience in industry sponsored clinical trial contracts management and negotiation.
- Knowledge of and experience with OHSU policies and procedures preferred.
