THE OPPORTUNITY:

Girl Scouts of West Central Florida announces a search for CEO to lead our amazing group of girls, volunteers, supporters, staff and parents to provide Girl Scouting’s one-of-a-kind, time-tested, research-backed programming that helps all girls develop their abilities, confidence and leadership skills. Our membership serves for thousands of girls ages 5-17 through programs and activities – from camping to STEM, arts to engineering, service projects to environmental care –designed to challenge and prepare girls for a future of leadership and achievement. For more than 100 years we have guided girls as they unleash their genuine G.I.R.L. (G*o-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, L*eader) selves and make positive impacts on our communities and the world.

We are looking for a bold, resourceful, courageous and empathetic CEO who will collaborate with the Board of Directors to maintain the upwards trajectory we have established as one of the top performing councils in the nation in terms of membership growth and innovation. The CEO will provide leadership for the strategic planning process by directing the formulation, integration, and implementation of short-term, mid-term, and long-range operating objectives and actions needed to achieve the Council’s goals. In addition, the CEO will ensure that pluralism is institutionalized within the Council’s activities and functions, promoting opportunities for participation in every aspect of Girl Scouting.

As an empathetic leader for our greatest resource, the people we employ and serve, the CEO provides oversight for policies and practices that enhance the participation of members and leverages the roles of staff and volunteers while stewarding material and fiscal assets. Of critical importance is the continued strengthening of the visibility of the Council and community awareness of the highly-regarded Girl Scout brand and role as fierce advocates for girls, as well as membership initiatives that effectively engage girls, families, and volunteers in the Council’s large service area.

An important outward-facing responsibility is for the CEO to expand the Council’s visibility in our region and create opportunities for significant membership growth and financial support by ensuring that investing in girls is a priority. The CEO will establish and foster relationships with corporate, nonprofit, government and funding communities by representing the Council at strategic functions and influential speaking opportunities.

Girl Scouts of West Central Florida serves more than 19,000 girls and more than 8,500 valued adult members throughout 8 counties in west central Florida. The Council’s operating budget is $7 million. There are currently 85 full-time and part-time staff members. Its administrative headquarters is located in Tampa, with four camp locations.

CRITICAL GOALS

Successful measures of accomplishment will be determined in the following areas.

  • Membership growth and retention.
  • Resource development through effective fundraising and execution of the annual product programs.
  • Increased visibility in the communities served with heightened brand and council awareness.
  • Management of council properties through effective planning and execution of risk management, maintenance, and utilization activities.
  • Instilling a culture that embraces innovation, collaboration and respect.
  • Directs and guides the Council in the development of priorities and objectives to ensure the work of the Council supports the purpose and values of Girl Scouting and facilitates the continued growth and development of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in accordance with the Council’s Board of Directors and GSUSA guidelines.
  • Demonstrates the highest qualities of integrity, judgment, empathy, adaptability and self-awareness.
  • Inspires others to be high performers by demonstrating confidence and courage, and by leading a culture that encourages partnership between staff and volunteers.

CEO QUALIFICATIONS

The CEO will possess solid and broad based business skills with a minimum of 5 years of comparable executive-level experience including profit and loss accountability, and 10 or more years in leadership roles of progressive responsibility. The CEO will have demonstrated ability in fundraising and/or direct sales experience, experience in fiscal management, and proven leadership skills in the management and development of paid staff and volunteers with the use of technology to reach out to stakeholders and manage internal operations are required.

Personal attributes of the CEO will include commitment to the Girl Scout Mission, Promise and Law, and the passion and ability to be the voice for those ideals across the Council’s diverse service area. The CEO will be a person of strong character and integrity who has a combination of vision, strategic, and operational planning abilities and who can serve as a role model of best management practices and effective decision-making. The CEO will possess a style of empathetic leadership that embraces partnerships, is collaborative, and empowers stakeholders to achieve their highest potential, all the while satisfying accountability measures mutually agreed upon by the CEO and the Board. The CEO will be recognized as a community leader in the Council’s jurisdiction, or have the personal and executive presence to achieve this quickly after appointment. It is essential that the CEO have a strong commitment to serving girls from all family, community and economic backgrounds.

Additional desired qualifications include nonprofit board relations and demonstrated fundraising or corporate sales experience, marketing, and volunteer relations leadership. It is expected that candidates will possess a minimum of an undergraduate degree, with advanced education and training desired.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS

The Council offers a competitive compensation plan commensurate with experience as well as a comprehensive benefits package including attractive time off, and Section 125 Cafeteria Plan, medical, dental and vision coverage. Other features include a retirement savings program, life/AD&D, and legal services options. Benefits are subject to change at the discretion of the Council. Relocation support will be considered.

COUNCIL JURISDICTION

Hillsborough, Polk, Pinellas, Citrus, Sumter, Hernando, Pasco, and Marion counties.
