JOB PURPOSE

The CEO of the Credit Union retains full responsibility for planning, directing, organizing and controlling the operational activities of the organization in accordance with policies as established by the Board of Directors. Responsible for broad Credit Union management of the philosophy, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives. Implements and coordinates operating practices and procedures, and risk management to ensure effective operations which meet established objectives. Provides guidance and recommendations to assist the Board in determining short and long-term objectives for the organization. Establishes and provides for the maintenance of controls and systems to analyze and report on operating efficiency and financial status of the Credit Union. Coordinates the activities of various operating committees and functions. Responsible for the employment, counseling, performance evaluation, training, motivation and discipline of Credit Union staff. This is generally the top management position in the Credit Union.

Plans, develops, and directs financial policies and practices of the organization to ensure that financial objectives, goals, and institutional growth are met and in accordance with policies of Board of Directors or corporate charter and government regulations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS

  • Must maintain the Credit Union’s policies regarding Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality. Must maintain the same in all matters, which any reasonable person would assume, deserves such treatment, pertaining to Operations, Branches and designated department(s).
  • Responsible for compliance with security policies and procedures, and as appropriate for the designated branches and/or department(s).
  • Plans and develops investment, loan, interest, and reserve policies to ensure optimum monetary returns in accordance with availability of investment funds, government restrictions, and sound financial practices.
  • Coordinates communication and reporting activities between divisions, departments, and branch offices to ensure availability of data required for efficient daily operations.
  • Delegates to subordinate corporate officers authority for administering activities and operations under their control.
  • Reviews reports and financial statements to determine policy changes due to changes in economic conditions
  • Serves as bank representative in professional, business, and community organizations to promote bank services.
  • Studies activities of related banking industries such as insurance, real estate, and securities.
  • Analyzes and competitively responds to financial services offered in the business community.
  • Plans budget and monitors financial activities.
  • Makes decisions in accordance with government laws and regulations.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Manages Sr. Management team, comprised of Chiefs and Vice President level executives. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS


ALL EMPLOYEES MUST QUALIFY FOR AND MAINTAIN A FIDELITY BOND

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or closely related field is required. Advanced college degree, MBA or professional certification is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum eight years’ executive level experience within a financial institution.
  • Extensive experience in financial services industry with specific knowledge of Credit Union movement and philosophy is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, members, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to operate basic office equipment and be PC literate with software applications in use at VCCU. Must have the ability to utilize other job related software programs. Must be competent in and understand the Credit Union’s LAN/WAN/Host System etc.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time. The person in the position will communicate often with members, employees and vendors in order to convey information and you must be able to exchange accurate information with them. You will constantly operate computer equipment using a keyboard, 10 touch keypads and other like office equipment to accurately calculate figures and input data. You will often reach on top of high cabinets for items; often position yourself to get under desks and cabinets; and constantly communicate effectively and efficiently with employees, members and vendors. The employee is frequently required to traverse across the office. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
