Island Lake Camp seeks a Waterfront Director for summer 2020 and beyond. Island Lake is a prestigious coed sleep away camp in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, 2½ hours from NYC. We were founded on a philosophy of individual attention and achievement. Dates of employment are from early June to mid-August (Note: start date is negotiable). Salary is commensurate with experience.
The Waterfront at Island Lake consists of a heated pool, a lake for swimming and boating, and a separate lake for motorboat activities all on the same property. The director will oversee all three facilities along with assistant directors.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a working knowledge of all areas of the waterfront and management; possess strong leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills; and be self-motivated as well as safety conscious. Candidates will also be responsible for the training of new lifeguards at the beginning of each summer. Therefore, applicants must have a current Waterfront Lifeguarding Instructor Certification with corresponding certifications in CPR/AED. Waterfront Director responsibilities also include ensuring the general safety of campers and staff at the waterfront, supervising the waterfront staff, managing any waterfront emergencies, programming, and scheduling of staff, and other duties assigned by the Director or Head Counselor as needed. Professional waterfront experience and prior teaching experience is desired but not required.
