PURPOSE:
As a member of the Consumer Packaging North American (CPNA) division, the Director will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that will enable CPNA to accelerate business growth and achieve our 2025 sustainability goals
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage a portfolio of activities aimed at achieving CPNA’s short and long term sustainability goals.
- Develop and implement strategy roadmaps for future generations of more sustainable products that enable growth without compromising performance or safety. This should be done in partnership with product line managers and product development leaders.
- Work directly with customers and the commercial team to capture project requirements (functionality, regulatory, qualification, approvals, timing, etc.).
- Plan, organize and direct sustainability related projects from the ideation stage through implementation / execution stage (revenue generation).
- Assess new and existing supplier capabilities to meet quality, regulatory, volume and cost requirements as it relates to components aimed at advancing Berry Global’s sustainability goals. This should be done in partnership with with Berry Global’s corporate purchasing and commodity management teams.
- Develop and execute strategies that increase the availability of quality post-consumer, post-commerical and post-industrial recycled resin.
- Teach and educate all stakeholders – internally & externally – about the importance of sustainability, Berry’s initiatives and capabilities as well as what actions can be taken by individual stakeholders to participate in the circular economy.
- Liaise with corporate communications and marketing to develop content promoting CPNA’s sustainability strategies, product offerings and achievements.
- Represent CPNA as a thought leader on sustainability matters at customer ideation sessions, conferences and Industry boards.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, budding regulatory matters, high-potential technologies as well as customer requirements and goals related to sustainability.
- Facilitate internal communication amongst cross functional stakeholders in order to promote awareness of CPNA sustainability initiatives, product offerings, competitive intelligence, and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required with preference for background in engineering
- Prefer prior work experience with consumer packaging, recycling, resin or manufacturing companies
- Require experience in sustainability, engineering management, technical selling, commodity management, or business development.
- Experience with strategy development and deployment in multinational corporations required.
- Strong project/program management skills with 5 plus years of hands-on experience
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and direct employees
- Ability to independently develop business cases – strategic rationale development, defining inputs, cash flow modeling, sensitivity analysis, risk assessment
- Ability to travel to manufacturing, customer and supplier plants
