The Scrum Master Sr. Advisor is a dedicated team member who has a primary responsibility to help the self-organizing, self-managing Scrum Team achieve its goals. Scrum Masters do so by teaching Scrum, implementing and enforcing Scrum practices, and identifying and eliminating impediments. The Scrum Master also helps protect the team from outside influences, which could otherwise interfere with the teams focus and ability to deliver value in a short time-box. The Scrum Master is an integral part of the Scrum team.
The Scrum Master is the Scrum Team’s working servant leader who
- Helps assure that the team follows the rules of Scrum & SaFe
- Helps them meet their daily and iteration objectives
- Works to remove impediments, facilitates continuous improvement
- Coordinates solution implementation and delivery with other Scrum Masters
Responsibilities:
- Facilitating the team’s progress toward the goal: Scrum Masters are team facilitators and are constantly engaged in challenging the old norms of development while keeping the team focused on the goals of the iteration.
- Leading the team’s efforts in continuous improvement: They help the team remain creative and productive while ensuring its successes are visible to the product owner. They will facilitate a team Sprint Retrospective to help the team improve, ensuring that the team take responsibility for their actions, and helping the team become problem solvers for themselves.
- Enforcing the rules of the Agile process: The rules of Scrum are lightweight and flexible, but they are rules nonetheless, and this role is responsible for reinforcing the rules with the team.
- Eliminating impediments: Many blocking issues will be beyond the team’s authority or will require support from other teams. This role actively addresses these issues so that the team can remain focused on achieving the objectives of the iteration.
- Facilitate team level ceremonies
- Ensure communication across teams and projects by attending Scrum of Scrums
- Champion Agile processes and roles
- Ensure the team remains focused on the tasks
- Monitor daily issues impacting the team; facilitate resolutions and escalation as necessary
- Engage in prioritization with product owner and program management
- Thorough understanding of sprint capacity, velocity, story sizing, story risk analysis, and story management
- Coordinates with internal team partners towards on-time delivery of critical projects and programs for their teams
- Brings clarity, cohesiveness, transparency, organization, and accountability to projects involving projects involving multiple teams or departments
- Foster an environment of creativity and empowerment;
- Improve the productivity of the development team in any way possible
- Provide all necessary communications and status information to leadership
- Mentor Scrum Master apprentices
- Identifies and manages the risks associated with their team
- Promotes improved engineering practices
- Ensures that Rally accurately reflects team work and progress
- Provides Sr Scrum Master with information needed for appropriate status reporting to our stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Exemplary core IT agile project management skills
- Experienced or advanced knowledge of multiple IT disciplines including software designs and architecture, business process engineering, requirement gathering, development and unit testing, quality assurance methods, etc.
- Prior experience with project delivery of large integrated projects, business process management or commercial software, large data conversion projects, and/or legacy replacement projects
- Demonstrated and applied experience initiating and successfully delivering complex projects
- Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking skills
- Ability to navigate a fast paced, highly matrixed organization effectively
- Ability to remove barriers and enable teams to complete their objectives
- Proven ability to present and communicate at all levels with clarity and precision both written and verbally
- Demonstrated budget management skills and experience
- A proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders; mobilize and motivate teams; set direction and approach; resolve conflict; deliver tough messages with grace; execute with limited information and ambiguity
- Prior scrum master experience preferred
- Agile and especially SaFe certifications desired
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science and Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline is preferred
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred
