Chesapeake is seeking a Director of Operations to oversee a fast growing Payment Operations unit, Fraud Management, and Retail Bank Operations departments. Preferred applicants will have a strong background in payments operations and strategy with experience in financial services operations. The Director of Operations reports directly to the CIO and will work closely with Chesapeake Payment Systems, as one of less than 20 community banks offering national merchant services ISO sponsorship, to process and manage ACH and other payment streams. This person will lead the way with implementation of new payment systems such as RTP and FedNow, to support the diverse national reaching business units of Chesapeake Bank. SUMMARY: The Director of Operations is responsible for leadership of all facets of bank deposit and payment processing operations for Chesapeake Financial Shares (CFS). The Director of Operations develops long term plans and leads Operations teams to meet the strategic goals of the company, while staying abreast of the latest trends in the banking industry and emerging payments. CFS Operations includes ACH processing, debit card issuing, ATM management, item processing, statement processing, customer file maintenance, retail branch support, and related back room banking services.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop Retail Bank Operations Manager with responsibilities that include:
- Item processing
- Lockbox product management and processing
- Statement and notice generation, printing and distribution including outsourced and in-house services.
- Retail bank branch staff support (e.g. internal support calls such as account opening and IRA procedures)
- Lead payment operations teams for all areas of CFS including:
- ACH processing and risk management, including transactions for retail bank customers and Chesapeake Payment Systems.
- Debit card program, card issuing, and risk management
- ATM program and fleet management including outsourced and in-house machines
- Lead and develop Fraud Manager with responsibility for the fraud management program for CFS.
- Lead the development and implementation of emerging payment services such as RTP, Zelle, and FedNow.
- Develop and maintain a robust Quality Assurance program for bank operations and customer impacting processes.
- Responsible for continuous process efficiency improvement and management including the use of workflow management software
- Build and maintain close collaborative relationships between Operations and all related departments, including specifically Chesapeake Payments Systems (merchant acquiring), retail branches and management, Admin Support (office of the CFO), and Risk Management.
- Regularly attends relevant seminars and conferences, and actively participate in industry peer networking in order to keep abreast of current trends and new information regarding the financial services and payment industry.
Qualifications
- Minimum five years in higher management, leading and developing managers and teams.
- Minimum five years of experience in financial services operations, with a strong preference towards deposit operations and payments.
- In depth knowledge of the payments industry and/or financial services industry
- Holds or the ability to earn a payments industry certification such as Accredited ACH Professional (AAP), Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) or similar designation.
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
- Good analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to adapt and learn at a rapid pace
- Ability to work flexible schedules
- Ability to view a computer monitor for long periods of time
