Role Outline: This position requires proven leadership, communication, influencing, and facilitation skills and has responsibility for designing solutions, establishing architecture frameworks, and influencing technology standards. Subject matter expertise across multiple infrastructure domains is critical as well as the ability to solve complex technical challenges and provide guidance or oversight for enterprise initiatives. Regular interaction with the IT Enterprise Technologies Business Engagement teams will be expected to ensure business drivers are captured and reflected in the technology strategies.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the definition and architecting of the Core Network services to support innovative solutions for internal business partners
- Introduce a culture of innovation within an environment that requires high levels of scalability, security and reliability
- Build relationships with key architects across the IT organization and collaborate on promoting consistent architectural best practices
- Explore new technologies and learn new things, while also maximizing existing investments and implementations
- Partner with other Engineering teams to define strategic technical direction, develop roadmaps, and contribute to project business cases
- Develop architectures in collaboration with engineering teams, business stakeholders, and technology vendors while ensuring solutions satisfy business needs and align appropriately with NBCU standards and expectations to be flexible, reliable, cost effective, scalable and sustainable throughout the expected lifecycle
- Drive innovation by advising engineering teams and other stakeholders on the external technology landscape, both within the media and entertainment industry and beyond.
- Evaluate new technologies, support POCs/prototyping, and participate in the development of new service offerings
- Contribute to the development of NBCU reference architectures and processes.
- Develop business cases, design solution architecture, and manage multi-phased, complex migration programs that address technology, people/organization, and process change
- Understand complex IT and business problems and apply technology and product portfolio knowledge to solve customer problems in a consultative manner
- Consult with technical subject matter experts and develop alternative technical solutions when necessary.
- Advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on business and system priorities
- Act as a change agent by anticipating technology opportunities, proposing viable solutions, and enabling process/technical innovation
- Inspire team to exceed expectations, encourage employee growth through professional development, groom team member capabilities via active coaching, and identify skill/ability mismatches
- Provide regular direction, coaching, and guidance to the team for strategic, project, and operational efforts
- Develop and maintain Enterprise Technologies solution/service roadmaps, and ensure services are aligned with business needs as well as the department strategy and investment plan
- Support Enterprise Technologies leadership as needed with strategic presentations and internal/external communications.
- Maintain contact with strategic partners and outside peers to remain current with industry trends and best practices
- Participate in negotiations on contracts with third-party service providers as required.
- Manage budgeting and proposal efforts by ensuring completion of project business cases, cost-benefit analyses, resource plans, and project schedules
- Verify areas of responsibility are operating within budget by monitoring labor, software, and hardware costs across all projects and activities.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- B.S. degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 10+ years in related field, with at least 3 years in a management role
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading complex programs/projects with proven record of successful completion within media and entertainment industry
- Proven experience developing strategies and roadmaps as well as establishing standards, policies, and frameworks
- Ability to present complex ideas and communicate effectively with senior leadership
- Deep understanding of application and infrastructure technologies (compute, storage, network, database, web, integration, virtualization, firewalls, load balancers, cloud hosting)
- Exceptional technical skills with implementation, architecture, and integration experience
- Experience developing and delivering complex technology architecture on enterprise level/scale
- Strong facilitation skills to engage subject matter experts to define requirements and conduct detailed design reviews with project team
- Experience in agile software development, automated testing, and DevOps experience.
