Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Oversees the developmental care and supervision of children. Works side by side with Teachers and Assistant Teachers to implement age appropriate curriculum for children. Establishes and maintain supportive relationships with children and parents.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, adapt, and schedule age-appropriate curriculum stimulating children’s cognitive skills, abilities, and development.
- Interact professionally with other employees, vendors, parents, and children.
- Work effectively as a team contributor on all projects.
- Develop and maintain a high level of communication and positive relationships with the Executive Director, Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and parents.
- Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline.
- Maintain daily contact with families and respond promptly and courteously to parent concerns and/or complaints.
- Design and regularly maintain classrooms and bulletin boards with the students’ work, in alignment with Teaching Strategies objectives and IELDS benchmarks.
- Meet with the Owner, Chief of Staff, and/or Executive Director to discuss program, student, and goal progress; to coordinate program design; evaluate outreach efforts; report site needs for supplies and materials; and address any other issues.
- Submit all required documentation on a timely basis, including attendance, emergency cards, permission forms, data on student activities, and surveys.
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Assist Teachers in compiling student data for progress reports/report cards and Parent/Teacher Conferences in a running portfolio to document student accomplishments and skills throughout the year.
- Record daily debriefs of children’s behavior and activities; monitor behavioral patterns and develop assessments and profiles.
- Maintain accurate attendance and enrollment records; maintains appropriate confidential records.
- Maintain classrooms and play areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; sets up rooms and areas for various activities such as lunch, naps, games, etc.
- Participates in program-wide family events, including Family Nights, Open Houses, Fundraiser events, etc.
- Monitor children for signs of child abuse and reports incidents of suspected abuse to appropriate authorities.
- Maintain current knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Development.
- Responsible for the full implementation of The Royal Academy, Illinois DCFS, and Part 407 along with any additional performance standards, policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of an early childhood development center including developmentally appropriate practices for a child care program.
- Responsible for the planning and supervision of a group of children.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- All new child care directors hired on or after July 1, 2017 shall have a minimum of an associate degree in child development or early childhood education, or the equivalent (defined as 64 semester hours in any discipline with a minimum of 21 semester hours of college credit in child development, early childhood education or early childhood special education) and either a Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential (see 89 Ill. Adm. Code 50.720(b) and http://www.ilgateways.com/en/illinois-directorcredential-idc) or 3 semester hours of college credit or 3 points of credential approved training in administration, leadership or management.
- Six or more hours of basic training on providing care for children with disabilities (preferred).
- Background/Fingerprint and Health Clearance.
- Physical examination completed no more than 6 months prior to employment
- Certified in first-aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver
- Food and sanitation certification (Manager)
- Completed DCFS-approved Mandated Reporter Training, SIDS, SUID, SBS and other required training certificates
- Original unofficial transcripts and “sealed” official transcripts for DCFS qualifications
- Members of the Gateways to Opportunity Registry, with all educational and training credentials entered in the registry (Optional)
- Physical Demands ability to lift 40 pounds regularly, stand for long periods of time, and able to sit on the floor to play with children.
- Three written references.
- Must understand early childhood philosophy and the ability to implement its principle of shared authority and decision-making.
- Able to demonstrate the skill and competence necessary to contribute to each child’s physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development.
- Experience in human services program management, including program planning, operations and evaluation, and the use of management information systems.
- Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups, major projects or initiatives.
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professional, working relationships with parents, community members, and Team Members.
- Must be highly organized and detailed oriented with strong time management skills.
- Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license, auto insurance, and regular use of car.
- Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.

- Expert level written and verbal communication skills in Spanish (preferred) and English.
- Excellent computer and technology skills and proficient in Microsoft Suite.
